I read this as "Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, it gains hexproof until the beginning of your next turn." Like I know that's not at all what it says upon reading it more carefully, but that was how I initially grokked the effect while reading the card. Now I'm upset the hexproof doesn't last through their turn.

It's still a really awesome card from a designer's perspective, I just don't see it affecting gameplay all that much. Maybe if it made them uncounterable as well?

Permanents you control with summoning sickness have hexproof.

I actually kind of like the intended function of that version, but having it be a triggered ability allows the opponent to get around the hexproof pretty easily. Using Rush's wording would work, to my knowledge, but I hate having to reference summoning sickness.

Welcome to Commander Week! For the next few days, I'll be designing a different Legendary creature aimed for the ever-popular Commander format. My goal is to have these cards encourage playstyles not currently supported by existing legends. Even playstyles some would consider... unnatural.

Elithe, Pain Reveler

Legendary Creature -- Human Rogue (R)
Whenever a creature you control is dealt damage that isn’t lethal, draw a card. (Lethal damage is damage greater than or equal to a creature’s toughness.)
"Pain is the ultimate affirmation that you’re still alive.”
3/5

Render

Pick up your Spiteful Bullys now, folks.

Cool card. What rendering software is that? MSE doesn't seem to be updated anymore.

MTG Design. It's browser-based right now, but I like it because it supports the newest card frames.

Using it is kind of a pain, so I stick to MSE for most purposes. But making a single card at a time to post here is doable.

Commander Week, Day 2.

Viggo Rivada, Blackguard

Legendary Creature -- Human Knight (R)
Whenever one or more creatures an opponent controls attack you, that opponent sacrifices an attacking creature.
"All my life I’ve been a pawn. For once, I’m fighting for a cause I actually believe in."
4/3

Render

is that a bit undercost/oppressive? i mean no mercy and spear of heliod are not crazy playable but this seems a bit too far into the other spectrum.

what else is this comparable to? lightmine field they can play around.

RE: spiteful bully?

more like pestilence and pyrohemia.

i am actually sad (in a weird way) when cards fit so well with certain commanders. It feels like you have 97 cards to fill rather than 99 if you know what i mean.

Come to think of it, Elithe kinda reminds me of Grim Patron.

It's hard to judge in a vacuum, but it feels roughly on par with No Mercy. One one hand, it's a creature so it can attack and block. On the other hand, it's pretty easy to remove.

So... maybe the cost could be increased by ? Or not?

Pestilence/Pyrohemia + Elithe does feel kind of nuts. Those didn't occur to me for some reason.

I think Viggo Mortensen Rivada is fine at 4 mana. If you're worried about his power level, i think it would be better to take away a point of toughness and make him a 4/2 than it would be to add to the cost.

Ziln the Obsessed

Legendary Creature -- Vedalken Articifer (R)
Decree — At the beginning of the game, if Ziln the Obsessed is in your command zone, name an artifact card.
When Ziln the Obsessed enters the battlefield, you may search your library and/or graveyard for a card with the chosen name, reveal it, and put it into your hand. If you searched your library in this way, shuffle it.
1/3

Decree, like Eminence denotes an ability that works from the command zone. Unlike Eminence, Decree only does something at the beginning of the game -- lets you name a card (sometimes of a particular type). What happens with the chosen card depends on the creature itself. Ziln, for example, fetches you the card -- over and over, each time you cast him.

Do you get to see your opening hand before you choose the card you're naming with Ziln?

The intention is no, but I'm not enough of a rules guru to say with certainty.

It's a triggered ability so it won't go on the stack or resolve until a player gets priority after the game actually starts.

Good to know. I'm fine with that -- I think it still works well enough as a mechanic.

Frejja, Moon Mother

Legendary Creature -- Human Shaman (R)
When Frejja, Moon Mother enters the battlefield, create a 2/2 green Wolf creature token.
, : For each Wolf creature you control, create a 2/2 green Wolf creature token.
2/2

I just like Wolf tribal, okay?
