In accordance with it being Vorthos week, here's a new game based on designing to the profiles. First, we have the familiar color pattern:

White
Blue
Back
Red
Green
Multicolor
Artifact
Land

Within each color, we'll design each of the five profiles:

Timmy/Tammy (Want's to experience something; tends toward large, game-changing, positive effects)
Johnny/Jenny (Want's to create something; tends toward combos and obscure cards)
Spike (Want's to prove something; tends toward decision-making and ways to gain incremental advantages)
Vorthos (Enjoys the flavor aspects of design; top-down design approach)
Mel (Enjoys the mechanical aspects of design; bottom-up design approach)

Because there is not clear indicator on a card of what profile you're designing it for, it'd be helpful to include the profile's name as your post header.
--------
T

Drifter Between the Realms
Creature - Spirit (U)
Whenever a card is exiled from anywhere, put a +1/+1 counter on Drifter Between the Realms.
Two worlds of possibility; no path between them.

I feel like you're oversimplifying things a bit with Spike. Efficiency is something Spike cares about, but that's a development decision not a design decision. Cards that are designed specifically for Spike players are the skill testing cards. Give Spike an interesting choice to make, and reward him/her for knowing the game better than the opponent. I think Charms are one of the Spikiest types of cards in the game because choosing to use your card resource in the right way when you've got lots of diverse options is where real mastery of the game pays off.

Or maybe this isn't relevant to the thread at all... :)

Of course I'm oversimplifying things. That's completely the point. What you described I feel is lumped under my "incremental advantages" banner, but I suppose highlighting choice over efficiency makes sense.

It should be mono-white.

M

Nayer of Namesakes
Creature - Human Soldier (C)
Renown (When this creature deals combat damage to a player, if it isn't renowned, put a +1/+1 counter on it and it becomes renowned.)
Nayer of Namesakes can't be blocked by creatures that are renown.

Enchantment (R)
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under a player's control, target creature becomes a copy of that creature and that player returns target creature to it's owners hand.

Well yeah, one sentence summary. True. I just don't like the stereotype of Spike only caring about mana efficiency and card advantage, and I'd love to see Spike entries in the contest that don't just focus on pushing mana curves.

Tommy, Johnny, and Spike are reasons for playing, not card categories. We don't have to be so exact on definitions, since just because I say this is a Johnny card doesn't mean every Johnny will like it

Picking which flavor profile a card fits into is hard, because most cards don't fit neatly into one profile.
