Biting my nails until Cheen and I can get our match in this weekend. I did my first successful test stream! Yay! Had my son pull up my YT page on his computer and blamo there it is. I'll put a notice here when I get ready to go live so you can see if I can improv well enough. You'll have fun! I'm a horrible player.

Sorry that some of the NGA team had tough matchups. I am still waiting to match but been in contract with opponent. She has a 3 hour time difference behind me so making matching during UK working hours not feasible for me. Happy to game later though so hopefully can get match played in these next few days, otherwise we can rely on weekend.

It got me thinking though of the importance of sideboarding. As long as you have the right tools it’s bringing them in. On that subject I have been play testing the sideboard, of course I need to try and get matched with a Drake deck but that does not seem to be a problem.

It seems my opponent has a net decked list, I was looking at an Arclight drake build and it seems card for card identical to opponents deck. On the surface it may seem an even match but whilst the Arclights cannot go up against any Drake the main deck from opponent has counter magic.

Initially in testing I was going to bring more removal for the electromancers. In testing though I faced such a deck with sideboard that I thought would work. It didn’t though the match was very close, 1 point off lethal for me.

I decided to go a different route then from sideboard. Changed this morning. Fortune in the matchup as the opponent was an Arclight deck. The sideboard changes took the match. The arclights had taken me down to at first 9 life then 4. I stabilised at 4. The opponents Arclight return were met with lava coil, a good answer. With many jump starts and opts later opponent had an 18/4 Enigma Drake. He was on 4 life like me by then. He lost.

Interestingly one of my main deck cards Arcane Encyclopedia was key. It’s main decked as it fits the Niv strategy and Izzet headline mechanic of card draw.

Anyway morale is try and test your sideboard and try and make sure you don’t bring a sword to a pistol duel. At least I think I am BETTER prepared. I still think I am not favourite in Game 1 but hopefully the sideboard games will give me the edge. SD

First thing everyone should do is read their oppoents deck , plan the strategy before the games and if possible test the deck against that specific deck via private friend games. Each opponent needs different strategy so take your time and think of what you should do to beat him and what moves to avoid.locate the most dangerous cards for your plan and try to avoid/destroy them if possible. So Many things are counting on your sideboard 15 cards can change your deck in to another deck.Prepare your sideboard changes before the game you SHOULD know what to change to the second match allready ant not thinking when the time comes.I make a clone of my deck with all the sideboards i will need in the second game to be ready from now so i will just choose it.Be smart , lose from bad luck not from bad moves.Did i mention to study your opponent deck twice?well do it one more.Also..if you are streaming try to talk less.talking during matches makes you even harder to concetrate and think the right move.focus.My game is tonight at 03:00am for me (GMT+2) .10 times difference from my opponent in california , i live in Greece so we couldnt make it better.Wish me luck!

Vampires ate my Jeskai control-butt, is what happened. Also luck was not really on my side this time.

Just for the record... who on the NGA team is playing aggro of some sort? Is everyone playing control, or are there some other options?

Edit: (I know Devil is sort of in the aggro category, but what about other players?)

Idea: next time, since we can now expect hundreds of players, we should actually form a real NGA team. It's no longer just NGA vs. NGA, we should be working to ensure an NGA'er wins it all next time, rather than some random person.

Another loss for the team.As you take a first look at the deck-lists we have a mirror golgari match .The only exception is that my opponent was missing many of the cards and have replace them with others that dont fit so much and make you think oh i got that.Altough he got all his bombs that really need in all 3 games and i was always trying to defend myself until my bombs comes too.I dont think i do mistakes on my games i just didnt draw my answers. All my golgari mirror games tests was like that , whoever draw his bombs first like tyrants and walkers it was hard to control it after that.

Game 1
i was on the play but had to mulligan a hand with 2 swamps and only green spells.a vraska golgari queen keep his minions busy until i was stuck for sooo long to 4 lands.i was trying to put things together and control the game until his vraska queen followed by his tyrant comes on the play and then the game was so hard to control it.
Game 2
Opponent mull to 6 as i was on the play again , i got my normal-fast hand with lanowar and 2drops i was pressing all the time .my tyrant comes to help thing to be blocked and die from ferox.that thing delay me but i took tyrant from the grave to push again this time succesfull.
Game 3
i got a good start and was trying again to control the battlefield but as i mention at the start his bombs was always first there.a tyran after a tyrant and then eldest reborn to took back his tyrant again i just couldnt make it alive with only minions.

I watched Zarvolt's first game yesterday. Brutal. Do not want to go up against that deck unless I draw immediate, fast and brutal myself.

Your deck looks solid, and indeed your opponents misses some stuff. Sometimes we're just not lucky enough to pull it together though, whatever deck you play. I wish magic was less depenent on that but alas, that's how it's always going to be.

All you can do is playtest your lists together, which I have been doing with Vert in preparation (didn't help me though, I still lost my first match to a starter deck lol). But it's nice to do and may help to prepare as good as we can. Creating a team of players that playtests together is nice and fun to do, so I'm all for that.

I dunno, I think every player should be allowed to have the same fair shot and impartial pairings. It would strongly lessen the prestige of doing well if you were given a softer road to get there.

If you want to win it, just win it. If you want to increase the odds of winning, help NGA p’a Playtest their matchups. That has a real impact to winning instead of arranging pairings.

I imagine Vert is with me on this one. We all want to see a team NGA win this, but win it legit

I'm with you too Barns, arranging pairings is just cheating... but I dunno what drive to that argument.
By the way: Binderato won, he even cut his hair after Barney's comments.
