Verix is undoubtedly a good card but to go out of your way to splash him is still going too far. At 4 mana, he can be answered by a variety of cards (e.g. Deep Freeze, Eviscerate). At 7 mana, you can still stall him with a single bigger flyer (e.g. Zahid). Don't get me wrong, he's a good card, but not so good that you want to compromise your mana base so hard to accommodate him. Or if you wanted to play him anyway, I would've pivoted into red, skipping one of the other two colors.

He's the one big win condition of your deck, yeah, but if I have to play something like that I'd be wondering, did I pass on any strong B/G card during the draft that I could've picked up instead of Verix and Fiery Intervention? If so then it was a mistake. Also the two Cloudreader Sphinxes are sort of win conditions too.

Guess we won't agree von Verix then ;)

However, I finally got another 7-win deck (7-1):

Several games were super-tough and I almost decked myself twice. Cast Down was nigh useless for most relevant threats were legendary. I had a Blessed Light that I didn't splash on purpose (would've resulted in too many off-color lands). Song of Freyalise and Tatyova did a lot of work. Also, the combo of The Mending of Dominaria and Windgrace Acolyte (add Tatyova for step 3 funsies) was nice.

I've stopped playing Ravnica, waiting for Dominaria draft.

For GRN it's easy that UB and UR are best colors, RW is okaish, depending on cards, green is overall mediocre. Is there a similar ranking for DOM?

Do we have a picklist of Constructed-relevant DOM Rares? Lands are obvious, but do DOM cards play a role in Standard decks for the foreseeable future?

There are the Sagas of course, but Benalia would require white to be relevant and Eldest Reborn is only uncommon.

Nothing strong in Dominaria. Lyra, Teferi, Chainwhirler, Shalai, etc.

Yes, sarcasm or not, none of those go into Golgari, which dominates right now.

Everything works in DOM, which is part of the reason it's such a good format.

I disagree with your assessment of GRN by the way. All the guilds seem playable. Weakest would be Selenesya, but only because it's reliant on rares and mythics (without which it really needs Conclave Cavaliers and Rosemane Centaurs).

@Sol77 - looking briefly through the list, there's also Steel Leaf Champion, Tempest Djinn, Siege-Gang Commander.

Sol, Golgari will be dead in 2 weeks wih all the WR angel lists running 4x Tocatli...

A t2 that stalls aggro due to 3 power butt and completly shuts down GB, blocks Harpooner, so no way for green to kill fliers easily, prevents all red etbs. Angels want to go to late game anyway.

Sure, that can happen, in that case Lyra and Shalai become premium picks, right?

I was just wondering how many meta cards there are in DOM given that we all know it's one of the two most powerful sets in Standard right now.

Then WR die to control?(with 4-5 mana "untap with it", 2 mana 1-3 and no U or B in sideboard)

Well, Jeskai Angels won a pptq lately with some main/side counters. On top they played the wizard which gives leg ndaries flash..

From the top of my head:

Blue: is king, the Bounce Wizard is one hell of a tempo play and he is Common
Black: is great lots of removal and cheap ones, Vicious Offering and Fungal Infection are in the common slot
Green: is solid, lots of bombs + Llanowar Elves and the Ramp Elf are great for any Kicker effect.
Kicker is an amazing mechanic in late game Skinwitch comes to mind, also Gruun and Baloth are fairly easy to pick up
18 lands is very reasonable, more than any other format in Arena IME
White: is meh, it has good cards flyers mostly UW is one hell of a deck and sometimes when the stars align WB can be amazing too
Red: stay away from red unless you get Verix or you are splashing for removal (Fight with fire is worth the splash)
Bombs are in every color and you want at least 2 in your deck
Splashing is easy with Skittering Survey pick up those early :)

My mono white with 4 Resplendent and 2 Shalai gained enormous value from adding two Tocatli. Not a Limited deck I know but in flavor with your post.

In Dom you can splash bombs aggressively. Which is why a green base can be amazing at times. And if it's a double splash then it's often worth entirely switching a colour for them.

e.g. p2p1 Tatyova, Benthic Druid when you're in rw? I'd be looking to play her and probably drop my weakest colour on the spot.

Gold cards you should P1P1: Tatyova, Slimefoot, Aryel, Teferi. All but Slimefoot I'd P2P1 as well, regardless of my current colours.

Adeliz can be a strong pickup early too, but it's much more all-in.

I agree that basically anything's playable in GRN, but Dimir and Boros are a tad above the rest.

Also, I have recently considered whether the “pro“ approach to drafting Golgari (Crats and value) is actually correct or if the guild should be drafted in a more aggressive fashion building a beatdown deck with cards like Erstwhile Trooper and prioritizing the cheap removal like Prey Upon. In a way this approach makes sense and is consistent with quite some Golgari cards that suggest this playstyle, but I'm not sure whether the approach is actually good.

But Tocatli is from XLN :)
Or did it get printed again in DOM?

I think your post is a good showcase of my suspicions that DOM isn't all that meta right now. M19 and XLN suddenly become interesting, but I skipped M19 Draft on purpose and don't think there will be a dedicated XLN Draft so we need wildcards for those.

Regarding the start of DOM Draft tomorrow, I'm confident that we can do just the same that we did the last time around. I still have it on my to-do list to evaluate my expected RoI in Competitive Draft. The rewards look great at first glance with all the bonus boosters. But you must not bust, so my question is: Is the competition (much) harder in Competitive?

I would be inclined to think that is a bit softer, but variance is variance and you will end up with awfull runs in one or the other mode.
