I think I am going to enjoy this new forum mets if the last few posts keep repeating themselves.

Deadpoet martyred himself on the gatekeeper story mission. Prevented a squad wipe.

I am finally ready to start making some edits within this thread. If a post disappears outright I will try to notify the original poster and provide an explanation of why it was removed. Edits will be labeled as such, with an explanation in the admin box, as usual.

Again, I ask you all to report obvious violations of the CoC. Without a report notification, I am not guaranteed to discover issues within this thread. There are definitely a few posts that should have been dealt with immediately, but I was not made aware that they existed.

You can all read the CoC here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1895

Stasis

edit: I think I'm done for now, but there may be other cuts later. Please have patience with me while I continue to untangle this thread.

I think I’m ready to acknowledge my part of the posting in this thread is going to be dead.

Politics has very clearly and very quickly become too dangerous of a subject with at least one poster taking a sizable break. I have no interest in going near this third rail again, in terms of discussion, anytime soon; and that seems to be the vast majority of ghd thread traffic since page 60-something in December. Like it or not this has gone from “Off Topic“ thread to “Mostly Politics”; and the thread is very clearly mostly dead without that content.

Meanwhile at least one person has put me on ignore; and I think this thread might as well be a bad version of my Facebook wall if I had one (Timmy Dad Meme); so if it’s going to be that level of dead now I don’t want to be the one prolonging the inevitable. I’ll still lurk and potentially comment but I’m posting too often compared to other people here.

Main reason for this post is so I don’t ghost anyone.

Edit: an ominous ninja appeared in the tall grass

Edit 2: I want to give this statistic before i forget; bc it’s extremely helpful for illustrating what I’m talking about.

First page started Mar 27, 2018

First post of 2019 was on January 15th, 2019 on page 17-18

First post of 2020 was Jan 1st, 2020 on page 45-46.

We are now on page 365 give or take. We added 320 ish pages increasing the total size of the thread around 800% in the last six months or so.

Ugh... Jacky boy don't do that, the fact that there was only one impasse in those 320 pages is only a sign that we have been very civilized in our debates, I think we all have picked up the glove regarding how to pursue debates from now on.

As for Stasis job I truly think he is going a bit too far, like I got a post deleted and I don't see any problem in it... At all, but anyway that is his prerogative and I will not be fool enough to fight it back coz I know he is just trying to do his job at the best of his capacity, I for once will try to make Stasis job easier.

That said US elections is going to be a topic I will be addressing, Corona virus and lots of other things I would like to discuss here with you guys so, I think we just move forward with the gained knowledge of how to push debates with respect and the notion that some issues are very sensitive, thus deserve a better understanding of different angles and need a little more attention to the language we use to address them.

I truly hope you all continue to take part in this little corner in hell, were we can discuss complex issues with informed opinions.

OH SHUT UP CUCHO

hey, i can't believe you got a post deleted, you're like the most even-keeled person here (normally it would be Darkstar but those Austrians can GO OFF any second if the pear schnapps gets low). So either someone went on a reporting-fest which sort of ties Stasis' hands, or he's trying to be fair with an approach of "well, if i have to delete Nighthawk posting sexy pics of Cucho, then I have to delete Cucho clearly flirting with Nighthawk earlier..."

Cucho and others who were affected.

There was no problem with your post or many of the other posts I removed. However, once you start editing for continuity it's much easier to be heavy handed with the cuts. Most of that discussion was fine, but it still needed to be removed or else many of the responses would be out of place or simply lack context. I am also considering cutting most of the discussion that led up to the incident, that is yet to be decided. I am still editing, and will do so in batches. That was a first pass attempt, but we still have a record of every post, and I may go back later and add things back in. Reactions to incidents that have since been removed can be very jarring to the reader. And unfortunately, that means reactions to the reactions often also have to go.

it's weird to me that you would spend energy going back several pages to clean up a conversation that not ONE SINGLE person is ever going to look at again.

Just don't want you wasting your time, is all

To your first point, this should have been done a lot sooner. Had I been notified earlier, most of the resultant conversation would have never occurred.

To you second point, I avoid wasting my time by being heavy handed in my edits.

There was significantly more than one impasse. A lot more. The “one impasse” you are thinking of was just the Krakatoa at the end where I got my first hard warning in over 4 years (and multiple soft warnings).

I’m not going to stop posting entirely. I’m just going to

- stop posting things other people obviously don’t care about enough to respond (I.E. video games not named Civ VI or XCOM 2). If you still want to read that kind of one-sided content I’m sure we can set up some sort of Twitter group. But as is multiple other users consider that content mostly spam. And I do not necessarily disagree. Enough people complain vs like it that I’m just going to stop.

- stop getting involved in the political discussions. It is very obviously bad for me and causing me to harbor negativity towards other posters they do not necessarily deserve.

I am not quitting/leaving. I will still be lurking. I’m currently following 4 threads on this subforum; and if someone else starts a music/food discussion in this thread of course I’ll participate.

I’m just going to make 1 change for myself (no more politics) and 1 change for others (no more unsolicited spam). If that means that I no longer post in this thread; then this thread will be very boring or 100% political.

I'm being a raw oldster here but I must say that between friends (and I consider us that) I see nothing that needed to be modded. Sorry Stasis but that is my honest opinion. Yes, I understand that if someone brand new happened upon our thread of news from around the world (that is absolutely the way I look at this thread in a major percentage) they may be a little freaked out but all in all I read nothing but intelligent conversation among humans.
See... this is partially why I never took on a mod position. I really see nothing that was out of bounds and I literally read this thread every morning as I'm having coffee. I may not respond or post often but I really do start my day with this thread.
I've read all of it.

Playing Civ vi, i wish Carbon Recapture was more useful, like you could either roll back Global warming/introduce a new ice age. On that note I also wish you could cause nuclear winter even on a limited scale lol

I’m sorry Mr. Graphicophiles, but I completely disagree with this. Individual moderation is none of your business unless the individuals moderated decide otherwise; but obviously at least I personally do not consider this to be the forum dynamic and my own moderation/experiences indicate that at least two more disagree with you.

As far as I am personally concerned, the forum dynamic has been a mix of general anti-moderation sentiment and to tell people to “learn to take a joke” like that bad stereotype from the office training videos who “just does not get it”. Thus situations that could have been easily mitigated dealt with early have become surprisingly nasty with a lot of underlying ill feeling. And there has been no way to talk things out without forcing moderation; because posters (I cannot state enough that this refers to no single user) refuse to accept they can be genuinely hurtful without meaning to.

So no, I believe that according to multiple posters (none of them mods) this situation has not at all been what you described and has very much been an ongoing issue where people should have had their posts reported much earlier on all sides.

———————-

It is also completely inexcusable for me personally to “blow up” on someone for any reason whatsoever, let alone with multiple uses of the f bomb. There is no good definition by which that content was not deserving of moderation; and one of my warnings came from that. And you all know the exact context wo me having to bring up specifics; so pls lets avoid forcing more continuity edits than necessary (only mostly joking).

Note: That is but one of three separate incidents I am currently on the receiving end of moderation for. The other two are not necessarily any of your business since I don’t want to drag others by name into this conversation. But I fully agree with all three warnings and consider myself lucky that I avoided skipping straight to a ban.

So if you really need a bare minimum disproof by counterexample of your supposition; I consider my stupid crazy derrière to be a sufficient example of unacceptable content that demanded moderation.

Edit: The first line is intended to be an inside joke; but if anyone is offended I can remove the reference.

Since I got the Civ 6 expansions i had a hard time playing aggressive because of the loyalty mechanic.
Now I finally know probably all the ways to deal with it, which makes playing aggressive way more fun.

Currently I am playing a game with Cyrus (Persian) against 4 other civilizations (King difficulty) and a lot of City-States with the intend to get a domination victory.
At first I attacked my Scythian neighbors capital because it was adjacent to one of my cities and therefore the nearest city I could attack.
That failed horribly though. I wasn't able to do much damage and my catapults got nearly one-shot by their city ranged attack.

Then I decided to load the game before I declared war. This time I attacked their 3 weak cities in the south and conquered them before attacking their 3 stronger cities. At the first stronger city though I took some casualties and got a really good peace offering by them. I decided to take it and attack them later with a more modernized army.

The next turns I focused my attention on getting my science game up and mining a lot of niter.
Later I attacked with bombards and other updated units and captured all 3 remaining cities with ease.

Trajan is a big problem tough, he has more science per turn and more military strength all game long. Not sure if I should deal with him first or last.

I decided to attack Gorgo at first and wiped her out completely.
The problem is, Trajan has already 2 out of 5 steps for a science victory. Therefore right after finishing Gorgo I instantly attacked 2 of his weak cities and captured them. Unfortunately I had big problems getting another city and took a lot of casualties. He even managed to build a Giant Death Robot and even my Bomber did hardly any damage. I took his Peace offer and started producing an army of giant death robots. I hope they are strong enough to take him out.
One of the cities I took from him has big loyalty problems. I did everything I could do to increase loyalty, now it is still on -1.

After reopening more and more things and easing a lot of measures we more than doubled our active cases within a weak here in Austria.

Did you place a governor, also building an entertainment district and doing the breads and circuses project improves loyalty.
