Hope: That access to these kinds of weapons doesn't significantly increase the volume of civilians 1 criminal can take out.

Change: Nothing. Blame every other possible factor, because...I dunno...collectors n' stuff.

Yeah, well that is part of the 'why' I'm talking about here. He's not supposed to have had access to that kind of an arsenal, even in the U.S. He's also not probably supposed to have been able to get it up into his room - that's not part of the answer, I agree, but still. Finally, how did a multi-millionaire get to this point in the first place - e.g.: what on earth went wrong here?

He legally obtained the guns and he legally obtained the bump stock that allowed for pseudo-rapid fire.

The stock is the part of the gun with the firing mechanism. A bump stock is one that fires every time it is bumped rather than a full pull of the trigger. With the pulse of the gun, when attached to a semi-automatic weapon, it can allow the gun to fire way more rapidly, almost continuously.

That’s pretty amazing, tbh. Even the NRA is coming out against ownership of bump stocks suddenly.

It's easy to come against bump stocks. I think they see it as an easy give without actually losing anything guns-rights-wise.

Getting rid of bump stocks doesn't solve the problem nor does it prevent mass shootings.

Anyway, baby steps maybe i guess

It's a pretty big departure for the NRA though, fwiw. They don't usually weigh in against a type of gun, augmentation, etc...

Scary thought that I saw posted a few days ago: Imagine if the guns had silencers. They would have suppressed the noise, and the flash of the barrels. Yikes.

So I watched Blade Runner: 2049 today. Every bit as engrossing as the final cut of the original which I did not expect. The trailers made it seem a little too glossy, but it has just as much depth and grit as its precursor. The fact it didn't try to answer questions posed in the original is awesome. Best film of the year which is saying something because this year has been amazing for film.

Also Molly's Game looks awesome. In Sorkin we trust.

Sorkin has a new one ?! Oh boy

I really need to see Blade Runner. Going to be hard to top Dunkirk or The Big Sick. Heck even Baby Driver and Logan were excellent

Yes, plus it's his directorial debut and pre-release reviews say it is amazing.

None of those films is Get Out, which is by far the best film besides BR:2049 I've seen this year.

I'm curious what you place above it? The Big Sick missed the mark for me and Dunkirk was really enjoyable, but a little sterile. IT or War for the Planet of the Apes probably takes my runner up place for me.

Downloaded a really **** cam of Big Sick a while ago and ditched it after about 2 minutes and then freaking forgot about the movie.
Downloading a nice rip right now.
And Logan... Had forgotten that one also.
Have been hearing great things about BR: 2049!

This surprises me; the best trilogy since LotR (perhaps even better, it's been a while since I binge watched the extended editions) and it's the strongest of thr three IMO.

I'm thinking my list for the year (so far) is:

BR: 2049
Get Out
WftPotA
IT
Mother!
Detroit

Then I'm not sure. There were a couple of sequels that were good (John Wick and Kingsman) but didn't have the impact of the originals. Logan Lucky was fun as was Baby Driver, though I think Logan would probably next on the list. To say they were both well received and I'm a major nerd neither WW or Spiderman did much for me. Hoping The Last Jedi makes the cut come year's end.

My top ten so far is at work so I'll post it Tuesday. Yeah Logan Lucky was fun. I'm jealous you got to see Detroit. Those Ape trilogy movies do absolutely nothing for me. They're sharp and we'll put together but I don't care about anyone in the movie.

I need to see IT bad.
