Really, Barney is the only one here who needs to worry. Yes technically it’s not a std and technically anyone can get it, but in practice this current outbreak is primarily affecting a particular subset of people engaging in a particular subset of activities - so just don’t attend any anonymous sex parties for a while or fondle anyone with weird boils and you prob be just fine

Saw this University of Minnesota Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy article from 7/20/22 saying at the time there was ~14k confirmed cases and 5 deaths. That’s half more recent timeline numbers but death rate is still 0.03% on confirmed cases.

I would assume that (and everything else) is more fatal in Africa just cuz of terrible health care in general

If you’re not fondling people with visible boils (which I personally wouldn’t do even without monkeypox in the news) and you’re not having a ton of anonymous sex with strangers, you’re more likely to win the lotto than catch monkeypox.
