Ok, some piloting tips for the warrior's Guild:

It's all about the inciters, they'll make you a little bit faster, so drop them T1 if possible. Don't be too hasty in using your cartouches, especially if your opponent is packing removal. The extra body is good for piloting vehicles and the first strike can make blockers tough, also its easy to flip the Militia early. Unfortunately, ops have caught on and usually zap the Inciter, so its 1 less removal spell (unless they're packing a sh@tload...).

Then, basically aggro the crap out of your opponent. If that doesn't work, hopefully PWs, Harvester and Oketra will help of things go long. Save energy whenever possible for the Lightnings, you never know when a big nasty thing may need some killing.

Happy warrioring!

Rot Shambler, Sifter of Skulls, Cliffhaven Vampire, AND Retreat to Emeria- Best MLK day EVER

Thopters, Spirits, and Warriors all look real mean.

And Nomad that write up is great, I'm super psyched for phase 3 now

Great lists guys!

I love Havens deck and look forward to trying Flakys as well

Nomads gameplan seems ridiculous to me, can’t wait to try it

It seems ridiculous to me too! I just tossed all those wizards together for fun, but then it kept winning more than it should, and the best explanation I can come up with is accidental psychological hax. People seem to play me so much differently if I drop River Marshal before Castigator, it's really kind of funny.

I’ve started the judging with bzzt’s list. I like it so far. We’ll see how it fares, but I like the elementals theme. This contest has me excited, guys. Super excited. My excitement glands are tingling.

Slowly building the lists. Played a few vs. AI to get a feel with Mowie's and Flaky's and both won all 3 with style. In particular:
I love bontu here with the self-saccing, just completely ran amok.
Although he's a one-of, I got to shamble rottenly all over the board twice (love that thing, and it's great here).
Also, I can't believe I didn't note aid from the cowl initially, really looking forward to putting in work with that

And nebelgast was a complete nightmare (for the AI) in all 3 games, tons of fun! The question did arise a couple of times though - to tap pre-combat or hold up for counter? Obviously there's situations for both, and I'd guess typically hold up the counter and end step your board if nothing comes, but I'm curious on balance what the best route is.

I also just noticed that Cucho answers the question "when is it optimal to play more than 60 cards in your deck?"

On the ladder, holding up counter is likely better unless you are getting aggro-pummeled and need to tap an attacker to stay ahead of the race.

I didn’t even consider the idea of running an extra card or two to compensate for the Tribal requirements. Might have slipped a Torrential in there if I had. Aside from its lack of flying that card would be pure gold in my build.

@Soup: according to WebMD, tingling sensations in your excitement glands can be a sign of cancer.
@Barney: ew.

Sorry, Barney. I am a faithful man and nothing and no one will ever come between me and the woman I love.

Your mom sends her love, by the way.

Heh, just surprised me - I rechecked it like 4 times b/c I was sure I had an extra card in there (for whatever reason adding them up the first couple of times in my head I was coming out 60), but then I checked the duelshelper and sure nuff.

And then it got me thinking, with some of the stuff (sorry I was fixated on getting angels to work all weekend) the best deck might've been 65 or even 70 cards just b/c of the restriction forcing 3-5 stinkers (or forcing out 3-5 key pieces) in for some tribes. Angels in particular were tough because there are only six 3 mana options and four of them are clunky removal, and two are pretty aggressive enchants, neither of which fit particularly well with 10-15 cards at 5+ mana.

I think part of the reason elementals (and to a little lesser extent, thopters and clerics) work is just because you can get a couple few tribals out of the lands which makes it much easier to assemble a for-realsy deck around it. I actually did a cut of elemental control that ran either 9 or 10 of the man-lands, and then basically was just a nice lean jeskai control build beyond that since you're running planar outburst, scatter, part the waterveil, and Flamecaller to cover most of the rest of your elementals. Well - i was running 5 colors so there was a prism array in there too :).

Which makes me wonder if we should do a phat-stack-athon for one of these contests?
Break the 100 card deck! Scum took one to a showdown and and made top-8 irc.
I confess that my mtg-ocd forces me to cut to 60 cards every time, but I can imagine that being on the receiving end of the ungodly luck fat-stacks get might be fun...

I second fat stacks as the next contest suggestion.

I like big stacks and I cannot lie!
You other brothers can't deny:
When a girl walks in with an itty bitty Jace
And a full deck in your face,
You get sprung!

Ive been building these stupid decks for two hours and I still have two left. I hate this deck builder like poison

I hope Arena is better

Soups typo just cost me ten minutes for nothing

Ok all done, that was almost three hours of building. There’s got to be a better way.

If Arena turns out to be as I think its going to be... we will never own a full collection... ever again.... so our beloved deckbuilding contest are going to be just on paper...ha!

Anyway tomorrow there is a big live stream event where they will reveal Magic Arena economy...
:panic:

After that we’ll be able to calculate if the grind is impossible I guess?
