Just won a match where I got to Round 3, I had Scorch left, he had nothing.

I drew Biting Frost, pitched it, got Iris.

He conceded before I had a chance to.

Ez game

I just play against Nilfgaard nonstop. It's annoying.

Lol, play a counter deck like Axemen.

I'm seeing a pretty weird metagame too. It's quite clear Greatsword is the best deck, yet I seem never to queue into them even while I was ranking up (currently around 3800).

Vs. Alchemy? I usually get washed by Alchemy when I ran Axemen. I built a hybrid consume build to try to beat them with Swarm, but it's very mediocre against everything else.

(At 3750 currently, albeit with a very pedestrian 67-56-2 record.)

Axemen is Alchemy's worst nightmare. First they run no weather clear, second they have to play on all three rows to enable their ales, third they can't pass easily since they need to fill their graveyard. They can potentially Viper Witcher all your Axemen but weather wipes them out anyway. My experience from the other side of the board is that I will usually go into round 3 up a card, after which it's just lights out. The only way I lose is if I get the blue coin + opponent has drawn spy while I haven't. If you look at the meta report (https://gwentup.com/report/18/22), Jan Calveit is 33.9% vs. Harald.

Interesting. May have been a design flaw on my end then. I'll tweak and re run. I like Axemen

Just made GM. The meta seems quite unusual. I didn't meet any Alchemy decks these past couple of days, instead all but one of the Jan Calveit decks I met were running Slave Infantry swarm (the last was running Shupe). I find it weird that this deck doesn't drypass round 2 if they win round 1, since they are best in a long round after all. GS was completely non-existent until the last few games when it turned out in droves. And I met lots of rarer decks from Eithne control to Unseen Elder Moonlight.

I feel like I've become a slightly worse player since I played mostly on autopilot, but I did get to 4200 before I stagnated and had to start thinking.

On another note, I hate GS as a deck. It has both strong engines and strong finishers. Its engines are resilient to removal, plus you have no way of knowing which engine to remove. GS also owns fog + other untargeted damage really hard. Imagine playing a card that says "do 4 damage" - against GS it becomes "do -2 damage", which is ridiculous. My Moonlight deck had like 9 hate cards, which was perhaps just enough to shift the matchup to 50-50. Nine hate cards. In a deck of 25. Boy do I hate GS.

I'm disconnecting all the time now. It's ruining my numbers.

Same, very frustrating especially since I often crash with a massive advantage. I can't tell what's causing it.

When on wifi, I drop probably 40% of the time. The whole app just freezes and the timer runs to zero, nothing happens, and I need to kill the program and take a loss.

Oh that's what you're getting. I'm not getting those, I'm getting crashes instead. It might be memory bias, but I somehow it only seems to happen if I'm winning by a large margin.

I've gotten less interested in Gwent anyway - the card pool seems played out to me, although I've only been playing two decks this season. Oh, and I still hate Greatswords, and the coin flip decides too many games.

Playing Arena makes me realize I've been looking at Magic through rose-tinted lenses. Yeah, Gwent has a massive coin flip issue. It certainly feels like going 2nd increases one's win rate to >70%. But playing Arena I realize also that Magic also has a massive coin flip issue. Being on the play is such an advantage, it's not really different from getting the red coin in Gwent. Only difference is in Gwent you can drypass into round 2 to lessen the impact of getting the blue coin; in Magic there's no such recourse.

Also in Gwent you know when you can concede much sooner than Magic, in Magic there's always the "what if my opponent only draws lands while I topdeck ___?" factor which means I have to sit there passing priority for several turns :(

Major problem with Gwent I guess is the relative lack of complexity. Magic has a lot more deck variety, which is a big deal to make the game seem not so played out.

Yeah, the coin flip can be backbreaking in Arena, too
