Combat is long and drawn out, but it's not very taxing on a player since it's a lot of 'hurry up and wait.' Well, playing on a board is just a lot of that, to be honest.

As far as where to focus, I'm most inclined for exploration / discovery / combat. I really am not a fan of politics, so my general tactic would be to appoint an NPC who has my best interests at heart and then leave things in his/her hands.

Pretty much what Squinty said with emphasis on the Exploration/Discovery part over the Combat part. Not that I'm against combat but 'all combat, all the time' get boring pretty fast.

Then I guess I just have left to decide whether to play an intelligent dude that is railroaded by an item or a charismatic dude that is railroaded by game mechanics.

I feel I maybe in too many games at the moment, but do want to express interest as an alternate if you need it.

Yeah, although I'd use the Binder archetype.
It seems like that might play too linearly though, so I'll probably go Occultist, and dipping into Magus so I can use int for my class features instead.
Probably going to spend the time after level 7 pretending to be a Druid, but one of the reasons I like the class is the flexibility, so I should be able to fill most gaps.

Paladin/Cavalier : Older warrior who focuses more on tactics, knowledge and diplomacy over flat-out divine might. Probably taking the Standard Bearer Cavalier archetype since a horse probably ain't all that useful when spelunking.

For what it's worth, Standard Bearer still gives you a mount at level five.

A mount would be a bit of an inconvenience sometimes, but I would still give it some time to shine.

Could also use it as a flanking buddy, although that probably works better with a small character. A wolf sounds more reasonable in a cave than a horse or camel does.

Anyway, best (free) way to do online character sheets?

So, now that we're 3.5 players, how do we proceed? I can wait a little more if you want to scout for another player (although I'm itching to start), but otherwise...
Should we try to make some cohesion between our characters? It sounds like we have some familiarity with each other, so we can iron out why we are on this adventure together. (Unless you already have plans for this, Teq?)
I'm somewhat in the finishing stages of my character. I need some more details when it comes to motivations (which is always hard for me), reduce the complexity creep I usually struggle with, and do some shopping. The magic item list is intimidating. Also need to find some feats that aren't Power Attack.

Pathfinder's overabundance of feats always gave me analysis paralysis. Motivation should primarily be "find your way back home because the underdark is dangerous and sucky to live in" (or to see loved ones/business ventures etc. back home, but more specific character motivations could be to discover valuable knowledge/accumulate wealth/cull the evil that may be lurking down here. Or more personal stuff, if you wanna work with each other for good bonds between characters.

As for the introduction/when we can start, I can easily start if the group's characters are mostly done. I haven't seen a sheet or concept strongly from Garren yet, but otherwise am ready on my end.

Your party has just cleared through a stereotypical cave adventure, and as they're trying to return to their home, they can't seem to remember the way back, and end up lost. Why they were there could be any number of stereotypical character motivators. Gold/revenge/safety of their homes/etc. They were defeating an orc tribe, is the current write-in I have.

Sheet was posted last page. I still need to write up the background and pick up mundane goods (sorry about that - been a very bad week in general) but I'll try to get that done today. I already know most of the general details of the background/personality as is I just need to write them down.

General overview is he's the son of minor nobility, spending most of his early life learning politics, etiquette and the arts of combat. He served with the military for a good portion of his life, having fought in a number of different campaigns. He received his calling as a paladin about eight years back and since then has been doing all he can to stymie the forces of evil while balancing the tenants of both his Order and his Code of Conduct. Officially speaking he has now retired from adventuring - he settled down somewhere, married and had a whole crop of children. Unfortunately he still suffers the paladins curse; there is always another evil to slay, another injustice to right and as such he constantly find himself pulled back onto the road (this adventure in the caves would have been one such event).

In terms of personality he's lost a lot of the fire of his youth, seeing himself more as a mentor or teacher then as a holy warrior these days. He will still fight to right wrongs but prefers to use words and knowledge over strength of arm to see his goals realized. For a paladin he's remarkably easy-going; he knows full well he is an exception, not the rule, and as such refuses to expect others to abide by his codes - though that wont stop him giving advice on just about any subject when the chance arises.

Oh, whoops. I missed that somehow. In that case, we /are/ good to go. I'll have the thread up shortly.

Teq, do you want me to list you as the referred for Myth-Weavers?
If possible, assuming that we are here because someone else wanted us to, I want to be the representative of said person. More like a servant than some sort of overseer of the task.

Referral doesn't matter. Just the cleanest layout I can usually find for web based sheets. If you could link the sheet whenever its created, even if not done, that'd work.

What sort might you be working for? Wealthy exploration patron? Shifty business with profit motives? A guild?

My character's personal preferences in this matter is of a lower priority, despite our starting power level. Likely more an individual endeavour, so maybe a noble or businessman of sorts. Probably someone somewhat concerned about public opinion.

I'll get onto the character sheet.
...just have to figure out that name.

How about a wealthy dwarven mining company? The orcs killed or scared off their laborers, so they hired some adventurers to deal with the orcs. Cliche, but I'm kinda running with the [cliche background -> legitimate adventure] shtick a bit.

It should be someone I have longer ties with.
Here's my suggestion: The Dwarven Company reported the problem through some form of "we need help" service that deals with finding suitable people, and I've been connected with that for a decent while.
