I'd say To Zanarkand is probably up there.

Similarly, Aerith's Theme is probably carved into the psyche of hundreds of thousands.

I'd also nominate Bob-omb Battlefield for the Mario collection.

Iconic game themes?

Final Fantasy prelude

FF victory theme. There are a couple, but maybe VI? Really it's just that first few notes they share that matter.

Doom main theme.

Pretty much any main theme from a Mario game. SMB1 & 3 particualrily

Maybe Green hill zone act 1 from Sonic 2?
Mortal Kombat Theme Song? I guess?
Pac-Man theme, even if it is only like 5 seconds

I subscribe to all FF ones. And is it me or the Doom theme sounds a lot like Master of Puppets?

I'd argue that the catchy as hell movie theme overshadows everything the game might offer.

I was going to add that.
Also Megalovania and the Halo theme.

ooooOOOOH!

I don't think I'm best qualified to comment on something like this. My touchstones are games like Pokémon and Donkey Kong, not Halo or Doom. I was listening to an episode of Super Marcato Bros about FFX and I didn't recognize To Zanarkand as they were playing it, despite that being one of the 5 mainline Final Fantasy games I've played. The closest I've come to FFVII has been Advent Children. I recognize Epona's Song more readily than Zelda's Lullaby. I don't think I'd recognize Green Hill Zone despite having played something like 4 iterations of that level. Hell, I was in my 20s before I even discovered the Tetris theme.

Albeit a space race instead of cars.

Oh, right; I'd forgotten about that. My memory of Space Dandy is kind of spotty since it was so ridiculously episodic that the main characters even died something like 5 times over the course of the series.

Similarly, you probably misattribute a lot of late 90's anime to the mid 00's.
The early millennium was not a smooth period for anime as technology didn't adapt as quick as it innovated.

I'd be willing to argue the point, but as I went about sifting through anime I've seen and doing the research to list out their air dates vs. the eras I think they were from, I realized not only how much work that is, but also how bad it is as a manner of trying to counter your argument. By and large, I seem to think shows (which I've seen) aired earlier than they actually did, rather than later. My biggest surprise was finding out I was off by decades from on when I thought Cyborg 009 aired.

The thing I realized as I was trying to do all that, though, was that this wouldn't make much of a difference since these are shows I have some familiarity with, and what we're mostly talking about is the visual style of an era, which would be better served by going with a quiz-like format where I try to guess the era of an anime I haven't seen. I don't think such a thing is really feasible in this format, though, so I don't really think I can properly argue what you're supposing.

I don't want what work I did to go completely to waste, though, so here's a smattering of shows I mostly got the wrong eras for:

There's definitely something to be said for Donkey Kong, both Country and regular.
Green Hills Zone I do think is very iconic, but despite that, I actually do have to stop and think of the song structure to get it running in my mind.
I think Kirby has at least one song that probably has elevated to iconic status too.

I'd be lying if I said that wasn't part of the appeal of Dandy. The weird pseudo continuity and overarching bizarre narrative.
Though despite the comedic aspects playing up the episodic nature, there were three or four episodes that really did strike a strong emotional chord in a way that felt oddly out of place and yet fitting for the show.
My favorite episode is one of them and the ending always hurts me to see it.

Well, out of everything that's certainly the one that makes sense considering the source material and extreme stylistic designs being a throwback.

Incidentally, if anyone is interested, I did track down the video I mentioned:

I'm not sure which Kirby songs I'd pin for iconic. Green Greens is the definitive Kirby song to me, but that is as someone who has played Kirby games. Gourmet Race might have more widespread recognition just because of this youtube mashup. Fountain of Dreams is probably my favorite, but again, I'm not sure how recognizable it is to people that haven't played Kirby or Smash.

The music for the original Doom was of questionable originality.

As for Kirby, the Gourmet Race theme and little victory diddy Kirby does are fairly iconic.

City Escape is the premier meme song from sonic iirc.

The one that goes “Follow me. Set me free. Trust me and we will....”

Its very popular in FFwd YouTube montages.

This is actually a pretty decent litmus test to see if a song is really iconic.
This is almost certainly the kirby victory theme.

THat's Gourmet Race. ..I think? Before I played a Kirby game I knew it as the Smash Bros theme. -No actually it's Kirby's victory theme. They share some notes.

Definitely some Zelda themes would count as iconic.

Out of all the Zelda tunes Song of Storms is my top pick, butbI recognize that might not be as widespread.

Obviously Overworld theme, Zelda's Lullaby, and Faerie Fountain all ping really high.
I'd also put Gerudo Valley Theme in contention.

As amazing as the music was in BotW... it's unfortunately too ambient to distinguish in any iconic way.

Hyrule Field theme (variation on it in multiple games including Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time) is hands down the most recognizable zelda song. There isn’t even a contest for the top spot there.

A lot of the more popular songs like sarias song, zeldas lullaby, song of storms, etc could feasibly compete for #2. Ocarina of Time seems to have the highest concentration of them.

The victory theme was the kirby song i was thinking of after watching the linked vids. Didn’t even remember Gourmet Race as a non smash bros song.

This id my personal favorite bit not the most iconic zelda song. I know the name; but I don’t think it’s as effective as a quick tune.
