Then you should hang around the threads I do.

When it comes to plays on words, I'm very much a pundit.

You're definitely in the right place, Ethan.

Puns are our favorite category of discourse.

You might say this is the purrfect board for it

(god remember the 20+ post long pun chains we used to do on the old board? I'll keep an eye out for those while I work on archiving and like... I don't know print them out and frame them.)

Yeah, those were great. Here's one I found in a thread about Greg:

http://community.wizards.com/comment/46252081

Obviously this thread will be obliterated in a week or so, but before that, enjoy!

In a similar bout of wordplay, there was an exchange in the voting thread for Keeper's "In the Eyes of the Specter of Might-Have-Been:" Keeper was concerned that the title wasn't quite right, and so said this:

Keeper wrote:
You guys don't think "eye" is too on the nose?

Give me a hand, here. I can't put my finger on a title I can stomach.

(The first one was unintentional, but then I just rolled with it...)

To which I responded:

God I remember those. They were really a sight to behold. I went to the link and it reminded me of all those drawings [REDACTED] made of everybody on the boards. I wish I still had mine tbh.

Well, at least Mirri wouldn't have mewtated everyone.

Yeah, at the end of the day, we're all just pawns in her game...

"The Wearherlight did not have a means to inherently travel between planes" - actually it did, and this was the one defining characteristic of Weatherlight through the novels. It was powered by a powerstone containing Serra's Realm (see the Planar Collapse card). Ertai had to open the portal because the engine had broken after the ship was attacked on Rath,

markrosewater said:
It might have been retconned in after I left the story but it was not true in the Weatherlight’s original design.

I was researching the issues of The Duelist in which the saga started, and found a quote in Weatherlight Takes Center Stage (reposted on Magicthegathering.com a few years back) that sheds some light on it.

"The Weatherlight's Thran engine can only be manipulated by a skilled wizard to "read" someone who has been to another plane. Once the engine has imprinted the destination, the Weatherlight can plane-shift. Gerrard's limited training in magic is not enough to control the engine, and no one on board has been to the mysterious plane called Rath."

So the Weatherlight sort of did and did not have the means to "inherently travel between planes". It's got an engine, but it needs a wizard operating it and a person who has been to another plane as a homing beacon of sorts. No idea how they would've found that out, as people who have been to other planes are not very common...

Yeah I thought the whole point of acquiring the pieces of Ramos was so that they could actually travel between planes at will?

I honestly can't remember quite what was going on. The ship was certainly powered up with the Ramos artifacts, but wasn't it capable of hopping planes in Bloodlines after getting Serra's Realm put into its power matrix? Been so long since I read those books... luckily they are on the re-reading pile :P

So if it were to happen to be someone's birthday and that someone were to ask MaRo a question about this stuff...

What are the big questions that we want answers for that can still plausibly be described as "trivia"?

So nothing new then. Bleh, I hate when he gives answers like that. Just tell me the story already!

Yeah it was kinda like "can you tell me about this important thing?" "It was important :)" Yep. Got that one.

Oh well.

I've never seen that post. Most of the time he just deflects by saying he'll tell that story some day or that he won't tell it right now out of respect for others who play a part in the story who he doesn't want to talk bad about.

He stated a few times that he needs permission to tell the story. Here's one such post.

Anyone else ever get real sick of how tightly controlled the narrative surrounding this game's creation is?

I mean excluding Tabak who seems to pretty much say whatever he wants, whenever he wants.
