Preferred Pronoun Set:
This is an Invitational contest between five people.

This year, those five people are ty, DS, Mown, Libe, and Rush_Clasic.

I've crafted a criterion for each person. I'll rate each one out of 5, and whoever wins gets the crown! :king:

ty, your task is to create a competitive white mythic that truly deserves to be mythic.

DS, your task is to create a blue sphinx with an original riddle for its flavor text.

Mown, your task is to create a black card with haste that really justifies the colorpie bending.

Libe, your task is to create an innovative red card with exactly 13 words of rules text. (Including custom reminder text, but not including the reminder text of real keywords.)

Rush, your task is to create a green common that will absolutely make me want to draft the set it's from.

If any of the invited contestant posts that they are unavailable to participate in this contest, the slot will go to the first poster who jumps on the criteria that contestant left behind.

The deadline is the vernal equinox: Friday @ 22:45 UTC.

Dibs on the criteria of the first person to drop out (if any - if I have to pick, I'll take blue if DS can't take the slot).

Also, how much bending does Mown actually have to do for an ability which is already established as tertiary for that colour?

Also, five people. ;)

Don't black seem to get more and more haste-capable creatures nowadays?

Ok, Mown, new criteria: Create the best Necropotence variant ever.

Imi, you're invited. Make a colorless Incarnation.

For some reason, I find this contest inherently hilarious.

Magma Racer

Creature -- Elemental (U)
Trample, haste
At the beginning of the end step, transform Magma Racer.
"When Mount Asuvi erupts, its children spill forth. Their infancy is measured in fleeting moments of fire, rage, and energy." —Folklore of the Jikui
4/1
///
Igneous Watcher
Creature -- Elemental (U)
Defender
"But all things must age. When the anger fades and the embers cool, Asuvi's children find the peace and patience of stone." —Folklore of the Jikui
1/4

12 words on one side + 1 on the other counts, right?

Card aside, I really have some questions.

Why us? Why these particular assignments? What does this have to do with pi?

Yaaaay! That four people that was five people is now six people, and I already think I'm going to struggle to beat Libe's card!

Reject

I didn't like my card.

Perfection |
Creature - Incarnation (M)
Flying, hexproof, eldritch.
As long as Perfection is in your hand, it can't change zones. (It can't be discarded, cast or exiled).
"Eternally desired, occasionally envisaged, momentarily achieved. What am I?"
10/10

Note that I've keyworded the standard anti-regen clause, as it bothered me that a card called 'Perfection' actually read in a really clunky way. The reminder text for Eldritch is the Emrakul one, as I thought the graveyard shuffle in was actually the most likely to be printed as a block mechanic at some point as opposed to the single card thing.

[Eldritch (When this card is put into a graveyard from anywhere, its owner shuffles his or her graveyard into his or her library).]

Well that certainly sounds insanely difficult.

workspace

Not bad for a ~15-minute brainstorm.

Exuberance (Choose one. If your life total is greater than your starting life total, instead choose both.)
- Put two 1/1 green Ouphe creature tokens onto the battlefield.
- Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.

Also, Q: Make a sixth-color card.

You'll have to give me some time on that one, Parad. That criterion lends itself to a massive introductory post. Is there any chance I could resubmit a sixth color card I posted in a very, very old contest?

So it seems we are revisiting the color dodecahedron much earlier than I originally intended. This was a concept that I began to fiddle with about six years ago that has been left on the back burner ever since. It was one of my more brilliant ideas back in the day, and clearly the one with the most design space (except perhaps for Envelop, but let's save that for another day). For more information on the philosophy behind the color dodecahedron, go here. (That means you especially, Parad. ;))

Brown's Color Philosophy

Fantastic card, but somewhat lacking in flair

Safeguard
Image
Instant
Counter target spell targeting a permanent you control unless its controller changes all of that spell's targets to permanents you don't control.
The mahogans guard from the earth, the babuna watch from the trees, and pteris ward from the skies. From all fronts, the Colony protects its own.

Brown is inherently very suspicious of any outside source, and it will do anything in its power to protect its own. As such, its protective measures are very secure. However, it is very reasonable if its assailants change course without causing any damage. That is why Safeguard fits so perfectly into brown.

ty and DS? I don't want to open yr criterion for the public yet. Please RSVP.

Mown, I'm going to grade your first one. I hope that's cool.

These are simply my 7 favorite designers is all. I crafted assignments for you based on what I thought you'd be good with. And I posted it on the π Day of the century (3/14/15), shortly after 9:26:53, when the idea for this contest came to me.

The thing tripping me up here is the original riddle part.

Curator of Answers
Creature — Sphinx
Flying
, Reveal Curator of Answers: Exchange Curator of Answers with a card you own from outside the game. You may activate this ability from your hand, your graveyard, or the battlefield. (If a non-permanent card would enter the battlefield, it remains where it is.)
"What only exists when sought?"
5/5

Pi
Sorcery (M)
Arrange five target permanents an opponent controls into a circle. That player chooses one. Destroy each permanent adjacent to it.
π = (4/1) - (4/3) + (4/5) - (4/7) + (4/9) - (4/11) + (4/13) - (4/15) ...
π = 3 + 4/(2*3*4) - 4/(4*5*6) + 4/(6*7*8) - 4/(8*9*10) + 4/(10*11*12) - 4/(12*13*14) ...

Casting cost because if you assign each of the colors a symbol, black is 3, white is 1, and red is 4.
