(Fleets of Ossia archives)

some folks just want to watch the world burn. the Barbarians of Ossia are savage, brutal warriors, hailing from the three most violent Isles. while their societies may be different, they all share a love of combat, be it with enemies or, if no such opponents can be found, with each other. Barbarians are quick to rouse and impossible to quell. they are the most dangerous fighters in head-to-head combat on all of Ossia.

Barbarians on Blackrock: almost every Troll could be called a Barbarian. with the exception of the few who are drawn to shamanistic practices and the archers who defend their shores, every Troll is, at their core, a Barbarian. however, the class is most represented among the younger trolls, still hot to prove their might, and among the brawlers at Barile's Expanse. they are fiercely territorial, and the leading cause of Troll deaths, even in times of war, is likely other Trolls, thanks largely to the Barbarians.

Barbarians on Chirom: the Blackwings are the Barbarians among the Bats. historically the inhabitants of the upper caves, the Blackwings far outgrew their Whitewing cousins, making them monstrous beasts who sometimes grow so large their wings can't support them. known across the Isles for their brutality, their sadism, and their lack of cunning, the Blackwings are the blunt weapon at the helm of Chirom's war efforts. preferring to leave the schemes and strategies to their more cunning Whitewing kin, the Blackwings go where they're directed and kill without mercy.

Barbarians on Qelan: as far as anyone can tell the defining line between the Barbarians and Pirates of the Isle of Winds is simply a boat. the two are both savage raiders, but the Barbarians prefer the ease of raiding second-hand, stealing comfortably from those who bring things back instead of doing the gathering themselves. some Barbarians, like the hero Mesik the Emblazoned, care less for objects and become intrigued by combat for its own sake, but most Barbarians are simply the folks who take the Pirates' things when they return.

existing barbarians

Barbarians hit hard, fast, and with little regard for anything else. in play, they are practically a burn deck, tossing whatever resources they can find toward the noble pursuit of reducing their opponent's life total to 0.

Tarflinger sounds really obnoxious.

As a card to play against.
I suppose "seems" would be the more appropriate word.

Well, it gives aggro decks a lot of reach. Lategame, it turns topdecked lands into 2/1 creatures that hit for 1 damage when you need the last point of damage or when hit by a removal spells.

true. I was kind of thinking of it turning into a flame jab but it can also just stay a piker. lategame, though, pikers aren't hard to deal with. I could make it a 1-drop 1/1, but then I've basically shot my common 1-drop quota for the rest of the set, and I really want the Forerunner to stay at 1. on the other hand, Regrow is powerful, and I made sure on the other Regrow 1 guy to keep it from being good as infinitely recurred. maybe I can do something else with that slot. I'll think about it.

ok how about instead of the sacrifice trigger, when it etbs it deals 1 damage to each player? I'm also talking to rush about changing Bloodclaw, so I could bump Tarflinger up to a 2/2 for . could probably move the attacks-each-turn thing too, clearing up space. ok, new forms for those guys:

Blackwing Bloodclaw-
Creature-Bat Barbarian (C)
Flying
Whenever another Barbarian enters the battlefield, Blackwing Bloodclaw gets +2/+0 until end of turn.
"Chirom has waited for war for thousands of years. We will wait no longer."~Kilmek Blackwing
1/1

Tarflinger-
Creature-Troll Barbarian (C)
Regrow 1 (You may cast this card from your graveyard by sacrificing 1 land in addition to its mana cost.)
When Tarflinger enters the battlefield it deals 1 damage to each player.
Younger trolls have taken to the Cauldron Pits as a weapon. Flaming tar tends to level many playing fields.
2/2

thoughts?

I like both new cards. They fit much better with NWO as well.

yeah, I wasn't happy with just tacking on drawbacks, but I couldn't really justify them at their costs. switching up the Bloodclaw opened things up, and fortunately since Mown had issues with Tarflinger it gave me room to bump that around as well.

also, fun fact, the barbarians deck can swing for 18 on turn 3 with all commons. like, it's a total god-hand, but it's doable and that's funny to me.

Should Blackwing Bloodclaw only trigger off Barbarians you control?
