Magic is entertainment, but audiences quickly got tired of watching the drawn out, highly technical Mixed Magical Arts contests and demanded something with more action. So a group of planeswalkers got together and developed a fast paced contest with big creatures and even bigger spells, where the contestants would be equal parts athlete and entertainer, with 'good guys' and 'bad guys', referees just for comedy purposes and rhinos stampeding through the arena. It's time for The Ultimate Smackdown!

Technical details: 100 commons (each printed three times), 60 uncommons (each printed twice) = 30 booster packs. Uncommons represent all rarities higher than common and there are four per pack.
Here are the five 'new' mechanics

Extend (spells you cast with X in their mana costs cost 1 less to cast). This goes on permanents and lets you make your X spells even bigger.

Masked Druid - 1g
Creature - Elf Druid (C)
Extend
T: Add g to your mana pool.
1/1

Fast mana. (2e) can be paid either with 2 colorless mana or by exiling a card from your hand. Later on you can retrieve any cards exiled this way by paying 2 mana apiece at sorcery speed, but if you do that while the permanent that you cast by exiling them is still on the battlefield, it gets sacrificed. The purpose of this mechanic is to allow you to get out big permanents sooner!

Floor Wurm - 2(2e)(2e)gg
Creature - Wurm (C)
Trample
6/4

Retaliate is an abilityword that goes on spells that can only target creatures that hit you this turn. No longer will annoying Esper mages be able to snipe creatures from a safe distance, now they'll have to get blood on their face first.

Push Back - 1u
Instant (C)
Retaliate - Return target creature that dealt combat damage to you this turn to its owner's hand. Draw a card.

Disturbed N (Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, that opponent loses N life). This ability creates a less powerful version of hexproof that can also go in other colors. It makes life even harder for the control player but also creates tension in a close race.

Angry Archivist - 4u
Creature - Human Wizard (U)
Disturbed 5
T: Draw a card.
1/1

Doomclash (each player reveals the top card of their library, then may put that card on the top or bottom. Each player whose card had the lowest or equal lowest converted mana cost loses the clash). This is a clash variant that is intended for multiplayer, but in a duel it is still good because it procs more than half the time unlike regular clash.

Mindbuster - 1b
Creature - Zombie (U)
When ~ enters the battlefield, doomclash. Each opponent who loses the clash discards a card.
2/1

How many "X spells" are you putting in this set? And what percentage of them will be common?Whats the interaction between extend and XX spells"? What about X-sabers and XX sabers? Will extend support Gottoms?

I don't have the exact numbers, but there will be more X spells than usual, and some of them will be common. Enough so that you don't feel silly using Extend cards in your Limited deck.

For XX spells, extend still only reduces the cost by one. If you wanted to cast Astral Cornucopia with X = 2 and you had a Masked Druid out, you'd have to pay 5 mana.

There will not be any yugioh cards in this set.

I like this idea. I'm not certain about all of those keywords. . . I think you need something to represent the entertainment. Maybe an action, i.e. entertain target creature. Also, prizes!

Most creatures in this set would be ones that would fight in the ring, not audience, so entertain target creature might not make sense, but you're right that there needs to be a way for them to do entertaining things.
Prizes are a good idea, maybe like the gold token from Gild or the quests from zendikar. Don't know if they need an explicit keyword but disturbed can be cut if I need the space
