I'm going to keep making these as I keep getting ideas
not entirely sure how I feel about this one, I like what it provides to a game of magic, but I'm not a fan of it not doing anything during a game of magic, and it takes away from a pretty interesting gameplay decision

Forgotten Road
Land
Memento (You may exile this card instead of putting it on the bottom of your library at the end of your mulligan. You may play it while it's exiled this way.)
: Produce .

Crushing Doubt
Instant
Memento (You may exile this card instead of putting it on the bottom of your library at the end of your mulligan. You may play it while it's exiled this way.)
Counter target spell.

Harbinger of Despair
Creature — Nightmare
Memento (You may exile this card instead of putting it on the bottom of your library at the end of your mulligan. You may play it while it's exiled this way.)
When ~ enters the battlefield, each opponent with a hand size greater than yours discards cards equal to the difference.
Menace, lifelink
6/6

Seems potentially very strong but maybe not as strong as leylines. Hmm

so basically it lets you skip the cost of mulliganning if you happen to get it in your mulliganned hand? seems relatively minor, and probably not worth keywording. I'd probably do Forgotten Road as a one-off, kinda like serum powder.

I feel like it could be a pretty decent keyword for a core set though to staple on some basic effects. I'm on a crusade against non-games as of late.

I guess the big question is how many mementos does your deck need before you'd be willing to take a mulligan on an otherwise marginal keep, and how likely are you to want that many cards that spend a portion of their power budget on an effect that does nothing in roughly 88.3% of games?

:duel:

PS: actually that calculation is too generous: it was based on how likely you are to get any give card from your 60-card deck in your 7-card starting hand, but of course in games where you don't mulligan memento also does nothing, so I'd say well over 90% of games it's not relevant.

but what if

Warping Hellion
Creature — Hellion
Haste, trample
At the beginning of your end step, return ~ to its owner's hand, then mulligan once.
4/4

Mid game mulligans are a lot more interesting now with the London mulligan since you lose a card, but gain drastically better card quality than you would previously. I'm not really sure how red they are.

Mulligan has a specific “beginning of the game action” connotation.

I’d much prefer this spell out that action you’d need to take. As for now, it’s unclear if you draw up to seven and scry down to your previous hand size minus one or not.

Then it wouldn't work with the other cards in the thread though, and I'd ultimately spell it out in reminder text.

I'm not convinced it's all worth it, but the london mulligan does interest me a bit as a game action.
