I think the best way to get back in the game for me is to try to make a new card every 3 or 4 days, so I'll just use this thread to keep track of them.

I'm doing this for myself, but of course comments are appreciated (wording, balance, the card already existing, etc). :)

At the beginnig of your upkeep, create a 4/4 red Dragon creature token with flying.

Made it legendary to keep the triggered ability in check. I wish it wasn't necessary.

Quite similar to Doomed Artisan, although with more immediate impact and in a color that can exploit it better.

why is he raising dragons if not to throw them at other people though

I don't think so.

609.1. An effect is something that happens in the game as a result of a spell or ability. When a spell,
activated ability, or triggered ability resolves, it may create one or more one-shot or continuous
effects. Static abilities may create one or more continuous effects.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Phasing (This phases in or out before you untap during each of your untap steps. While it's phased out, it's treated as though it doesn't exist.)
When Kykx, Otherworldly Emperor enters the battlefield, create a token that is a copy of it phased out.

I love the idea of phased out permanents, but Phasing as a keyword sucks. I think I'll be making some cards that deal with phased out permanents without using phasing.

I'm not sure I like Tactical Retreat letting you recklessly attack by presenting your opponent with 3 bad options. I'd probably also word it more along the lines of "When it phases back in, put a +1/+1 count on it", except as a replacement effect instead that I'm not sure how to go about wording.

Kykx is a pretty fun design, although the card itself is probably not particularly interesting gameplay wise. It would be neat if they had a different P/T or keywords or something to differentiate them.

I don't think I'd be willing to spend 3 mana on Mutant Mantle.

I actually wanted it to be two different abilities, so if the creature phases out another way, it will get the counter. But I can't put two lines on a keyword. I guess it doesn't make sense, yeah. I'll make it "As it phases in, put a +1/+1 counter on it."

It's just like an extra life I guess. IRL, it would probably be done with a token that's a copy of it when in dies.

I don't think 3 mana is outrageous or anything, I'd probably expect it to see print at 2 in a set where the effect is relevant. Curving it off Devoted Druid gives you infinite mana and infinite P/T, and there are probably less extreme applications like Ammit Eternal.

That's the idea. I don't think the current rules can handle that situation, but it would probably be a quick fix.

A creature phasing in doesn't enter the battlefield, so you're already safe there.

I think he meant when you create the token, not when it phases in. At least that is what understood, but I'm not sure.
