I think they don't do X spells that require information about X after they're on the battlefield. There's some disconnect in the rules that disallows it. Things can enter the battlefield with information about X, but once they're there, X is no longer something the game can remember. Or something. They may have changed this, but I haven't seen the evidence.

It is a little weird sounding but it makes sense and is something we've seen before. "Creatures with enchantments attached to them can't attack" is an extremely wordy way to say it.

Would "As Nightstalker enters the battlefield, destroy up to X creatures."?

Death Before Life
Instant (C)
Target creature gets +0/+1 and gains deathtouch until end of turn. If you cast Life and Death from exile, it gets +1/+0 and gains lifelink until end of turn instead.
Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)

it was originally gonna be just "Target creature gains deathtouch until end of turn. Another target creature gains lifelink until end of turn."

but then for some reason I kept going and that thing happened. but it doesn't exist so I'm within my rights you can't stop me
