Hi there! Not sure if it's polite of me to just jump here and indict a contest but here I am and the wisest thing is to make the most of it. So please, wise card-crafters of this noble subforum, dazzle me with your skill!

The rules are the following: the submitted cards must follow the following rules:
-Purely :r: card;
-A non-creature spell;
-Gives a creature a second chance, or more than one.

I'll comment on each entry and choose a winner in, say, a week. My choice will be influenced by the cards' awesomeness, perceived balance (the indication of the card's rarity would help) and the adherence to the thematic guidelines.

Good crafting, and have fun!

we don't take kindly to card contests here in you make the card

More seriously, I find the criteria kind of overly restrictive to the point where it feels more like you would've designed whatever card I ended up with instead of me, like I'm just filling in some holes.

That's assuming I'm anything good at card design :sweat: Aside from that, I get what you're saying, and if I end up doing more contests I'll keep that in mind. Would making the Phoenix part facoltative improve matters? Because I was mostly interested in seeing how would you approach :r: recursion (or some variation thereof) both flavorfully and mechanically in a color where the only things returning are a very specific category of creatures, but I realize now that forcing Phoenix as a theme is counterproductive to that :sweat:

I'll go and drop that part it nonetheless, I hope it helps. I'll keep that in mind when judging Yarium's entry.

I promise I didn't steal Mown's idea.

Change the targets of a target spell or ability that targets a creature you control.
You may cast this spell from your graveyard. When you do, flip a coin. If you lose the flip, exile this card instead of resolving it.

I find it interesting that since I dropped the Phoenix limitation nobody thought of it. I thought it was a rather obvious option, but apparently... :D

I find most people here jump through hoops to avoid the "obvious". :P
To be honest, I only did a Phoenix thing for my card because, when I posted, it was a requirement.

Noted. Still, exploring the obvious with a twist always had its attractive for me.

EDIT: you're free to discard your current entry and make a new one if you want.

Yarium

EpicLevelCommoner

Mown

Q is 564453

Cato

YingLung

UselessCommon

The winner is Yarium! Congrats!

I'm sorry I let the contest last for so long, because now I can't submit the card for CotW :( If anyone reading has feedback about my comments, especially if there are things that are obvious to consummate card-makers or visitors of this subforum but I'm unaware of. Also holy crap, writing this took me like half an afternoon, I'm waiting some time before making another contest :takei:

I would argue that red is the most likely color to express desperate, vengeful love.

Otherwise, yeah, I'll agree mine was a pretty uninspired design.

Glad you enjoyed it. Was wary of the coloured artifacts bit. I'm personally not a fan of coloured artifacts and it was completely shoe-horned in to fit the contest requirements. I think the card would be much better as a regular 3-generic cost artifact.

Fine, retroactive flavor text:

"Every soldier has their moment, and when your moment comes, only you can decide whether it is a moment of courage, or a moment of inertia."

Grads pls.
