On “baffle”, you’re probably right. I went for brevity, but likely should have gone for clarity. On “Zerat”, thanks. :) I was thinking Beholder-ish over Spider.

I mean pinging is the obvious blue/red crossover for those of us who have been in magic for a while, and flopfoot's Magic isn't that far off that. My problem is just that it seems to be pinging shunted into the 'combat mechanic' mould.

Boost (as this creature enters the battlefield or gains this ability, put a boost counter on it. At the beginning of your next upkeep, remove the counter and it gets +2/+2 until end of turn)

Free ride (when this creature enters the battlefield, add its mana cost to your mana pool. Spend this mana only on noncreature spells)

Strictly worse than flying, but

Peerless Bear - :1::r:
Creature - Bear
~ can't be blocked by creatures with no abilities.
2/2

Edit - looks like bcp4 already did this in both directions

Dodging Jaguar - :3::r:
Creature - Cat
Exclude 2 (whenever this creature attacks, up to two target creatures defending player controls can't block it this combat).
3/2

The excluded creatures can still block your other creatures, just not the jaguar.

Loudmouth Goblin - :1::r:
Creature - Goblin
Irritate (whenever this creature attacks, you may have it declare that it's a vegan. If you do, it must be blocked this combat if able and you sacrifice it at end of combat).
2/2

"Must be blocked" is bad if you can kill all your opponent's creatures one at a time as they come out. But this version can only be used once.

Another idea:

Knockback (Creatures dealt damage by this creature can't attack, block, or deal combat damage until the end of your next turn unless they have reach or haste.)

Red: Firepower/Explosives
Blue: Spatial distortions

Guile (You may have this permanent ignore spells and abilities that don't target it.)

Liberty (~ is not an "each creature")

yes Eph we know you're a whimsical genius, but i feel like it needs to dodge Apocalypse and maybe even Persecute in addition to just Wrath of God in order to really drive the point home.

Snowflake Champion -
Snow Creature - Elemental Knight
Liberty. (Snowflake Champion is not affected by "each" and "all" effects)
Your deck may contain any number of cards named Snowflake Champion.
"Be unique. Be beautiful. Be silent as you descend from the skies upon your unsuspecting foes." - Snowflake Order creed.
2/2

As for , perhaps "~cardname~ can attack creatures as though they were planeswalkers"?

I couldn't possibly read all the suggestions so I bet this is a repeat but:

Overtake (You may have this creature assign its combat damage as though it weren’t blocked.)

Can be flavored as suicidal aggression on a red 3/1 or sneaky pseudo-evasion on a blue 1/4.

Edit: Oh, no evasion...

This one is more interesting to me.

Probably...

Assassin (This creature can declare attacks against creatures opponents control.)

For what it’s worth, this actually feels way more Green than Blue. It’s essentially a static form of the fight mechanic.

Not exactly though:

Nekrataal Apprentice
Creature - Human Assassin
First strike, Intimidate, Assassin (This creature can declare attacks against creatures opponents control.)
The student has surpassed the master.
2/1

Just came to mind

Nekrataal

I think either me or eph should Create a */* colorless Thread creature token for this mechanic, with "* is equal to the number of posts attached to this creature plus one."

Ethereal (This creature can't block. Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to it)

Feels very blue, plays very red, can easily be flavored for either.
...but you probably wouldn't want to put that on too many creatures

Probably works better as a set mechanic, but:Absorbe Energy (Reveal this card from your hand until the next turn end phase, tap 3 lands you control: this card costs :2: less next turn).

Adamaro, First to Desire is red. Blue is the second color most likely to make an opponent draw cards and to get bonuses based on what's in the opponent's hand, like Recurring Insight. Maybe there is design space here, like

Spellhunter (This creature gets +1/+1 as long as an opponent has three or more cards in hand).

Or (Whenever this creature attacks, if defending player has three or more cards in hand, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn).

Funny enough, it was the first suggestion posted. :P

Neat ability, but stackable, which is one of the problems prowess has.

How about this?

Parry (This creature may double its toughness until end of turn instead of assigning combat damage.)

We get some very blue/red things. On mirror-stats it's effectively -X/+X, where X is the creature's p/t. It doubles things. It's "hey, I'm a wall, except when I'm not". It's not stackable. It messes with combat math. It's not evasive. Example:

Ace Spellslinger |
Creature - Human Pirate | (C)
Parry (This creature may double its toughness until end of turn instead of assigning combat damage.)
[2/2]

This creature fights as a 2/2 when you want it to, and as a 0/4 when you want it to just survive.

Here's a more rare version.

Honk-Swabble Dizard |
Creature - Donkey Wizard | {R}
Flying, Parry
Instant and sorcery spells you cast cost less to cast.
Instant and sorcery spells your opponents cast cost more to cast.
[4/4]

Preferred Pronoun Set:
Ordu Brynn
Creature — Nephilim
A creature is dealt lethal damage if damage on that creature is greater than or equal to its power instead of its toughness.
The ordu brynn's weirding turns noon-time into midnight and faith into despair.
4/1

I feel like there's something here.
