2 Pharika's Cure

2 Haunted Plate Mail
2 Prophetic Prisim
2 Ratchet Bomb

1 Underworld Connections

3 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver
1 Jace, Memory Adept

4 Watery Grave
4 Temple of Deceit
2 Dimir Guildgate
3 Island
10 Swamp
4 Mutavault

Sideboard:
2 Hero's Demise
1 Underworld Connections
3 Gainsay
1 AEtherling

I really wish I could manage to get Gray Merchant of Asphodel to work in this deck, but its just not meant to be. Think there is potential in a more creature-centric black deck, using Merchant, Disciple of Phenax, and Whip of Erebos together. But that's something that would take a lot more tuning than blue/black control, and is probably weaker in general to the mono-red matchup than this is.

I'm guessing divination instead of read because of the aggro matchup?

Dispel and aetherize might have spots in sideboard. Cyclonic rift?

Also, because unless the format slows down a lot (meaning by that, control becomes the top deck) I'm not sure I want to pay the two life in general just to Scry.

Dispel probably a good choice, AEtherize I'm skeptical on because the main reason I want to use it Ratchet Bomb covers (selesnya token decks).
Curious on your views for Cyclonic Rift.

A well placed rift is nice against walkers and a few other decks. 7 mana is more than fine for one sided wrath. Other tha. That I dunno.

Aetherize seems better against gruul decks though, they seem likely to run 3-5 drops. Even with xenagos and domri it should help you stabilze. Also no more hellrider so its now a really really good fog.

Also where's the duress/thoughtseize!?

Ashiok's been decent enough. Almost a must-kill for aggro, because you get to steal their threats to block with. But at the same time she isn't the hardest to kill.

Thoughtsieze might be worth playing, but I was averse to paying any life. Probably worth adding in somewhere, probably cut a Prisim, the Connections, and something else for 3 mainboard. Duress isn't worth it.

I'd mix it up a little more on the removal side. 4 doom blades is going to suck when you have a lifebane zombie or whatever beating at you! Where's far // away? Deals with hexproof creatures and that damned blood baron and is just generally a pain when you can fuse it.

I'm not too impressed with your kill. I don't know, I'm not really sold on the plate mail.

Did you try Jace AoT? He's decent vs aggro and has actually been pretty strong vs control in my little testing of dimir control. I prefer him to Jace MA (which has been more of a SB for me).

Opportunity is big. I played 3, though that might be too much vs aggro. I'd still play at least 2 MD, and maybe 3 divinations. With that, you might even be able to cut a land (even two if you keep the prism).

Connection was in the board for me. Great against control, but against aggro, you waste a turn to play it and the damage really adds up. I'd rather play divination. Against aggro, it's going to net me about the same amount of cards, for 2 mana less and without the damage. Against control though, it's awesome, so definitely worth 2 or 3 SB slots.

John's been making a control list, you should try to get in touch with him.

except his deck probably has 35 lands in it and he'll never get an opening hand with more than two lands in it.

So many inside jokes with that group. Another reason I must get in!

Getting in contact with John is largely limited to when he's on Ben's stream, because he won't add me on skype.
