On Writing Your Own Reviews and Duplicates
Feel free to do this. Just notify the op by pm a head of time, or post it in the thread, and please wait 1 week before posting a duplicate.

Do Not Post Something That Violates The Site COC.

In addition, please do not write a review unless you have seen the entire show or the first 50 episodes. Whichever works. And yes, there is a small amount of wiggle room there. But don't post a review where you haven't seen the first 5 and/or the last 5 episodes of a 12 episode anime. Or the equivalent. Or something else just as bad.

Quality also matters. As an extreme example, a 2 line review does not suffice, and neither does a review that doesn't mention anything major about the show at all.

On Requests
There are currently no rules on what you are allowed or not allowed to request. Just a request from the op to exercise your best judgment.

Everything I review though is something I've watched all the way through (or in the case of something really long 100+ episodes), so if I'm not willing to finish it I won't be reviewing it and I will state that later. I will at least try anything though and watch the first 2 or 3 episodes of all requests on Netflix, Hulu, or Crunchyroll.

Reviews in Progress
K: Return of Kings
Blood Blockade: Battlefront
Trinity Seven

Review of Naruto Shippuden:

The main character of the series is Naruto. He is the 9 tails jinchuriki, which means that when he was born the nine tails fox spirit was sealed into him, and he is able to use some of its power. He is a ninja of the Hidden Leaf Village in the Land of Fire in a world with many hidden villages in many lands with many unique ninja.

Shippuden takes place 3 years after the end of the original series. Most of it deals with two things. The first is naruoto's journey to grow stronger so that he can save his friends. The other is the akatsuki. The driving evil behind much of the action. They want to capture naruto and take the power of the spirit inside him.

The world's powers are divided into 3 groups. The first is genjutsu, which is basically anything to do with working on your opponent's sense (making them see things that aren't there for example). The second is taijutsu, which is our traditional martial arts combined with extreme power and speed (and on occasion the use of air friction itself as a weapon). The final group, and the most prevalent, is ninjutsu, which is basically everything that doesn't fall into the first two groups. Ninjutsu and genjutsu also require specific hand signs before use. The sheer number of powers characters have throughout the series is astounding, and they are extremely creative in this aspect.

The series has three main issues.

The first is too many flashbacks. Some of these, like short flashbacks to 100 episodes ago or short flashbacks to the original series, are justifiable. But a large number of them are not, whether due to being 10 minutes long or due to being a 3 minute long flashback to events of only two episodes ago. Even then.... it's okay. The problem is that it happens too often.

The second is a continuation of this issue. And that is too much detail over too much time spent explaining it. Pausing the action from anywhere from 15 minutes (in 21 minute episodes) to 3 episodes to explain the backstory of something is nice on occassion, but the frequency that this occurs just makes the series drag out after season 4 (it wasn't prevalent that much until season 6, and season 5 has its own issues).

And finally.......... the series takes entire episode breaks for no good reason to tell a completely different story. Usually when the last episode ended on a cliffhanger. And sometimes it takes a dozen episodes before anything resembling the main story arc begins again. For example, Naruto is in a very major very important situation in season 7. The story then takes a 12-20 episode break that completely ignores continuity (it shows characters you know cannot possibly be doing that right now doing different things because you know they were just in a battle that has not been resolved yet................). 90% of season 5, about 20% of season 6, and about 10-20% of season 7 has nothing to do with the main story and is a complete abrupt halt in it. To the point where you literally can skip all of season 5 and about 40 episodes in the next two seasons and not care at all about what you missed. The one or two times it actually matters, you'll get the standard over used expositional flashback anyways.

So....... the first four seasons, or about the first 150 episodes I believe, were very very good. They were excellent. I would fully recommend that. After that, the above issues take hold and the series just drags out unneccessarily long. It becomes a chore to watch. So I would recommend trying it out, watching it through season 4, and then deciding what you are willing to put up with after that. The first four seasons are really really good and really worth watching and end on their own story, so they are still very much worth it.

I don't want to review another game right now, so here is a review of another anime:

Review of Blue Exorcist:

While this anime was only 25 episodes long, it has a very decent story and there really isn't anything I would consider to be filler involved. Warning, I will spoil some of episodes 1-3.

Rin is...... well he is the son of the devil. He finds this out on the day that his foster father Shiro dies. Because........ demon's have just barely found out about Rin in episode 1 and so on (his foster family has been hiding him and has not told him of this). The death of his foster father convinces Rin to become an exorcist and train to be so at True Cross academy with his foster brother, who became a full fledged exorcist a while ago without telling him (because they have been hiding the whole demon thing from Rin) as his teacher. And........ the story goes from there.

As for the whole explanation about demons and such.... so there are two worlds. Ours is Assiah. The other one is Gehenna. Normally, travel between the two is impossible. But demon's have found ways to start crossing over. And it is the job of exorcists to stop them and rescue the humans they decide to possess.

There were zero major annoyances that came up, although Rin's brother can be an emotionless #$%#% at times and that can be a minor annoyance. But really...... Jack doesn't really have something to complain about here. Which is very rare.

As far as anime's go, it was very good, it's story got well developed, and they actually finished the vast majority of loose ends by the end of the last episode. I would fully recommend at least trying it, and...... yeah. Go watch it.

Although....... warning the whole demon thing gets a little weird in a couple episodes.

I don't feel like you've told me anything here. I could probably have gotten all of that from just reading the description on MAL or so. Talk about it's qualities and faults. Something like:
Blue Flame Exorcist is pretty good if you're in for an action anime. It has a great soundtrack and good animation quality. The characters are fairly well-developed all things considered, although they end up being a bit insufferable at times with their personal drama arcs. The plot is pretty simple and effective, with some amusing plot twists thrown in for good measure. Comedy is pretty basic, and the show has a non-negligible amount of fan service, which is worth keeping in mind. Probably worth a watch if you like shows like [I don't know, Guilty Crow?]

Not that say that I'm an exceptional reviewer or anything. But setting exposition tells me barely anything about the show. School Days vs any other high school harem, etc.

mjack33 wrote:
I'll keep that in mind for next time. The problem with reviewing Blue Exorcist is that nothing stood out as a problem, and I am a lot better at saying whats wrong than whats really good. Below is my attempt at a fix:

About Blue Exorcist, it was a very good action anime, and the premise and execution were unique enough to stand out in a genre where way too much stuff feels derivative of something else. That being said, you still had some of the standard stereotypical characters show up, and the story felt like it ended a little too early. One of the best parts of the show was that although you had the standard light hearted episodes and fan service and such, a few very specific moments also got refreshingly dark, where villains actually did really villainous things because well..... they are demons. Although nothing really rivaled the second episode, which is probably one of the top 3 out of the 25. Regardless, it was worth sitting down to watch, and I would recommend it.

Anime Review of: Ghost Hunt

So this anime was based on the idea that the characters would be conducting paranormal investigations. However, its structure is unique. Instead of being one long continuing story, it is divided into different "cases". There is 1 case that lasts 1 episode and 1 that lasts for two, but the rest last for 3 or 4 episodes a piece. Characters remember each other and remember past cases, but the structure really is divided between cases. Because of this, some basic concepts keep getting rehashed every so often. Because of this structure, I am going to review these on an individual basis.

character

Now, I'm going to talk about the individual cases, since the show's quality really does differ from case to case.

This is because some of these cases had some of the best atmosphere of any paranormal anime I have ever watched. In addition to this, they actually bring real world science and beliefs about the paranormal into the show, although you also get the CSI effect where some of it is exxagerated. But they at least made a decent attempt, and about 50% of this stuff is actually from real life investigations. Unfortunately, the second half gets really paranormal and out there, and some really weird stuff shows up that has no real life basis, so...... yeah the cases are a mixed bag.

That being said, this show is extremely good at generating a tense, paranormal atmosphere. It is has an extreme amount of variety between cases, so that nothing feels the same and the show does not get stale.

Evil Spirits all Over

Other Cases

Overall I would recommend watching it. It was an extremely good action anime, and only about 4 of the 25 episodes had something groanworthy. There is also a lot of variety between episodes, which is refreshing. And... they actually try to avoid deus ex machina here. Characters are actually forced to solve the cases themselves. Although they get a little paranormal help, you know by the end of the case that they actually were important in solving it, and their skill came into play directly. That's rare when it comes to anime. And finally, the actual paranormal investigation thing is done really well and some of the parts are genuinely atmospherically scary.

Oh and the opening music is very very good for this genre, although the actual opening scenes are just okay.

Anime Review of Cowboy Bebop:

The main characters of the series are Jet, Spike, Faye, Ein, and Edward. Jet is an ex cop and spike is an ex-something I can't reveal for spoiler reasons, and the series starts with them as bounty hunters aboard their spaceship the Bebop. The cowboy part of the name comes from "Space Cowboy" being a kind of thematic variation of the word Bounty Hunter and many episodes ending with some variation of "See you next time Space Cowboy" or something. After a little while they end up picking up the rest of their permanant crew members, and by episode 10 the entire main crew has been assembled. Faye can't remember her past, Edward is a very talented hacker, albeit also very young, and Ein is .... a dog. A dog smarter than a lot of humans. An Einstein dog if you will. And close enough to a corgie that I will call him a corgie.

There are some recurring themes having to do with both Spike and Faye having to deal with their past in 4 or 5 episodes a piece, but the vast majority of episodes are just standalone episodes in which this team of bounty hunters does what bounty hunters do best. A recurring thing here is the tv show Big Shot, which is a wild west themed bounty information show that serves as a major plot device in a lot of episodes. Overall, most of the stories are really well done, and its a really good action/sci-fi anime. There really isn't any fan-service here, and its a lot closer to something like Trigun than something.... more paranormal or outside our current realms of possibility. You could actually believe something like this happens a few hundred years in the future.

As far as actual cast and character development go, ein and Edward are mostly there for comic relief than anything else (although they actually are really useful and skilled team members; the comic relief is actually really really good too), while the other 3 characters have very large amounts of character development throughout the series. All 3 adult bounty hunters grow to realize a lot of crap about themselves through various situations, and they actually have very complex characters that work well together and feed off of each other, although quite a bit of on screen time is also spent arguing amongst themselves.

One of the things this show is famous for is its music. It is good. Really really good. Even though most of it is just background and ambiance stuff, you can tell they have worked extremely hard on it. And ..... it's really freaking good. A lot of it is jazz, but there is still quite a bit of variance amongst this. Many episodes are also named after a musical theme, such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Jupiter Jazz, and the Real Folk Blues.

Honestly...... check this page for more info.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Cowboy_Bebop

As far as the show goes... I would recommend it. It's definitely different and unique from a ton of other anime, and the actual show is pretty good. The only show I could think to compare it to at all was Trigun, and even then the comparison doesn't do either justice, but.... Yes. I would say to watch the show.

Speaking of, I am probably going to review Trigun in a little while.

If you've done Cowboy Bebop, and are going to do Trigun, then you need to do Outlaw Star as well and complete the trifecta of space cowboy animes!

Would you be interested in doing this one?

I want to review it at some point, and I'll try to do this one, but after some searching this is going to be one of those ones where it's going to be harder than normal for me to actually watch the thing. Which leads to procrastination and so on and so forth which leads to this is going to happen "eventually". Which is unfortunate, since it looks really good.

It does look really good at first glance though.

First things first, this is Vash the Stampede:

Spoiler

Yes. This is actually a spoiler before the fourth or fifth episode, although before then it's pretty much an open secret.

Second, Double Dollars, or $$ are their equivalent of $. I have no idea why they even bothered to replace $ with $$ except it sounds fun to say "60 billion double dollars".

Oh. Vash has a $$60 billion bounty on his head at all times, because he is the "Human Typhoon". Long story short, Vash got in trouble for something a long time ago, which I won't spoil for obvious reasons of being relevant to show, and now everywhere he goes trouble seems to follow him. You see, even though Vash is technically an "outlaw", he is much closer to a hero and vigilant and keeps injecting himself into a large number of dangerous situations in order to protect innocent lives. Vash is also the most competent gun slinger on the planet where he lives, and nothing in the show disproves this. The problem then? Vash has a unique form of pacifism. He will shoot you enough to disable you, but he refuses to inflict fatal wounds or wounds that could even end up fatal. Which means the best shot in the space west still takes quite a bit of damage over time in various situations because he really really really won't hurt someone that bad, which makes situations where say... I don't know he becomes a hostage on purpose? a lot more dangerous. BTW, that is one of his standard tactics. In the case of a hostage situation, become a hostage. .......... Yeah. In addition to this, vash has a penchant for donuts (doughnuts?) and basically has some of the best comedic timing in general. A running gag actually is people refusing to believe Vash the Stampede is Vash the stampede, because of the way he acts (he does not act like a 60 billion $$ outlaw in any way shape or form) and because he.... generally doesn't look like the kind of mythical devil people seem to think about Vash the Stampede.

Two other main characters are Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson from the Bernardelli Insurance Society, with the former being in charge while the latter acts as more comedic relief. They basically have orders to find Vash the Stampede and follow him around writing insurance claims for anything that gets broken in his presence. ....... And yes there is actually a huge market for that. Vash really is that much of a bane to this insurance company apparently. Regardless, both act as really well developed characters, although neither really sees any character development throughout the series.

In its 26? episode run, the show had decent pacing. The first half is basically shenanigans for shenanigans sake as well as Vash basically dealing with random outlaws in various situations and can be watched on an episode by episode basis, while the second half to last third(while still containing some of this) is more Vash dealing with his past and has a continuous running story. The pacing works really well, and there weren't any episodes I didn't like, felt were filler, or generally wouldn't recommend watching (which is really rare for me even for 26 episode animes).

The show also has really good music on occassion, although it doesn't have anywhere near the variety of some of our other reviewees. But it does have some of the best music in any anime when it does have good music, so there's that.

Some occassional supernatural activity, at least by our definition, also goes on around Vash the Stampede, although this only really comes up once in the first half of the anime. And again it has to do with his whole "past I can't spoil" thing so I can't go into more detail without ruining stuff.

Overall? I would recommend making up your own mind for this one. I would of course recommend watching it, but in this case you can watch the first 3 episodes and know almost immediately if you will like the show. It's one of the better action, wild-west type animes I have seen, and it personally makes it into my top 3, but this is one of those cases where you don't have to watch it for a real long time to know if you are going to be a fan.

In addition to this, there is also a full length movie known as "Trigun Badlands Rumble" that I would recommend watching. I might actually recommend watching it before ever even touching the actual anime, which is why I am posting it here.

I could give it a shot sometime, but my weekend is ending now and I should be sleeping soon. I'm not much of a reviewer, mostly I just say if I liked it or not, but I'll give it a shot when I can get around to it.

This has not much to do with either show and is only even remotely representative of what to expect from Cowboy Bebop if anything, but it's cool so here is a neat "music video":

I much prefer this video for Cowboy Bebop:

It is badly compressed, but it was a great video with one of my all time favorite songs. Also, while we're on the subject of great AMVs:

Almost NSFW

Okay, it's not really a NSFW video, but it's a little ecchi in parts, so might as well spoiler it.

:bang: Excuse me for a moment while I gather my thoughts.

.... Although I am about to review this one, I would appreciate if anyone else who really liked the show would be willing to do their own review of it as well.

Anime Review of: Ouran High School Host Club

Spoiler

And thus ends an awkward review I did to get it out of the way.

Unfortunately, I don't think I did the good parts of the show justice either just due to the fact that the parts I don't like are.... well they sound worse than they are but they are also pretty prevalent in some cases. Since I do like the show though, I would definitely appreciate it if anyone wanted to write a positive review here.

Regarding Naruto
Quote:
There is actually a very obvious reason. The manga is still ongoing and the anime was moving too fast.
That said, the lack of continuity and stuff did annoy me. But it's something the manga's creator himself does all the time as well :V
For example in the latest chapter: (Spoilers obv)

Azumanga Daioh - This may or may not happen, but for now it's like "Outlaw Star".

Dog Days - This one will happen. Added it to op.

Crunchyroll only has the second season of Dog Days I believe.
Personally, I like the first season a bit more, but you'll have to watch a random other streaming site or such to view that.

I checked. http://www.crunchyroll.com/dog-days

Click on season 1, and you should be able to watch all the episodes. I personally can, and I'm a free user, which is probably what I am going to do after rewatching SAC.

Ah yes, I see in the comments they added season 1 later. I remember an e-mail action to CR to throw season 1 on there as well, because they initially started with just season 2.
I'm from Netherlands though, so I can't see crap on there :P
