Another card dump with more random ideas that I occasionally have.

-------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Alabaz, the High Lord
Legendary Creature - Demon (M)
Whenever Alabaz attacks, creatures defending player controls lose all abilities and have base power and toughness 0/2 until end of turn.
"I met its eyes, and in that moment, I felt its utter disdain. In that moment, I realized that I was nothing. And in that moment, I faltered." - Stories from a would-be hero
6/4

I originally started with an idea similar to Arrogant Bloodlord. Basically a high ranking demon lord who thought that everybody else was worthless trash. The ability quickly followed.

-------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Half-Life Hero
Creature - Elemental Warrior (R)
Indestructible, Lifelink
At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose half your life, rounded up.
The war against entropy is neverending.
1/1

I was thinking about heroes because I had just written the flavor text for the previous card and I thought to myself "hey half-life hero is a pretty cool name", which led to me making a card with the half-life drawback.

The first iteration of this card was a 5/5 lifelink + first strike for 3, but then I realized that the drawback of the card is much less significant if the card starts at high stats. With a base 5/5 body, you end up stabilizing at 10 life, which is not too bad. So instead I decided to shrink the card to a 1/1 in order to make the drawback more interesting. But then the problem became, why would you ever want to play a 1/1 lifelinker that costed you a bunch of life every turn when you could just play something like Serra Ascendant? I (hopefully) solved the problem with Indestructible.

-------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Ayuna, Eternal Skeptic
Legendary Creature - Human Advisor (R)
Artifacts, enchantments, and lands aren’t creatures and can’t become creatures.
"The forest itself moves against me? I’ll believe it when I see it."
2/2

A hate bear that hates on cars and manlands and animated stories. I just really liked the concept of this card. Don't know how it actually plays in practice. The inspiration for this card was mostly because I thought wandering mountains and forests were a bit weird. But this also happens to shut down robots which doesn't really make too much sense. I do like how Ayuna nerfs Theros Gods though.

-------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Thunderbringers
Creature - Human Shaman (R)
Flash
When Thunderbringers enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a red instant or sorcery card and exile it. Until end of turn, you may play that card.
"Through crackling air / my spirit follows the path / of least resistance."
2/1

I wanted to make a red Snapcaster Mage. That was basically it. While Ol' Snappy gets a card back from your graveyard, this lets you tutor for a card in your deck. A card from your deck is usually better than one in your graveyard, which is why this is only restricted to red cards. Red already has the whole pseudo-card advantage "play it or lose it" thing, which is perfect for this card. Also, haiku. Because I can.

-------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Gambling Den
Land (U)
: Add to your mana pool.
Pay 1 life, : Flip two coins. If both are heads, draw a card.
Rakdos thugs may look dumb, but they’re experts at bleeding you dry.

I was thinking of a good way to represent a casino as a land and I ended up with this card. The second ability is pretty weak (you're expected to end up paying 4 mana and 4 life for each card you draw), but it's always better to err on the low-impact side with these sorts of random effects.

-------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
The Admiral’s Speakeasy
Legendary Land (M)
: Add to your mana pool.
At the beginning of each player’s end step, that player exiles the top card of his or her library.
Any player may play cards exiled by the Admiral’s Speakeasy.
Loose lips sink ships.

I really like the concept of this card. I started out wanting to make a land that represented a bar. So I settled on the whole idea of "secrets aren't really secrets anymore when you get drunk". Basically, everything that gets said out loud in this bar (all the exiled cards) becomes public knowledge, meaning anyone and everyone has access to it. The exile happens at the end of each turn because having it happen at the beginning of the turn just turns this card into a free Howling Mine because you're just going to play the exiled card if you can. It's much more interesting to give you the first shot at playing your opponents' cards instead. Also I'm pretty proud of the flavor text considering it was literally the last thing I came up with.

-------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Impound Clunker
Artifact - Vehicle (U)
Trample
When Impound Clunker becomes crewed, you may detain another target vehicle.
Crew 2
"Dude! Where’s my car?"
5/3

This card literally only exists because I was walking on the sidewalk and I saw a tow truck and then I thought about how the concept of a tow truck was literally just the detain mechanic plus the new vehicle mechanic. Technically, I think you can crew this multiple times in a turn in order to detain multiple vehicles, but whatever. You're tapping more creatures in order to do that so it's not a big deal.

Half-Life Hero is very underpowered, very black, and should round down since half-lifes are asymptotic.

Half-Life Hero is very underpowered

It's a niche card. It's definitely not meant to be pushed (the drawback is pretty crippling) but it has its spots and does things that no other card does.

very black

I considered W/B and B as well but ultimately settled on mono-white due to flavor reasons. I mean black shouldn't get a monopoly on creatures with drawbacks or on life payments, in my opinion.

and should round down since half-lifes are asymptotic.

Fair enough. I wanted this card to eventually kill you if you stalled out so I picked rounding up. But that's really a minor stylistic choice and I wouldn't mind at all if it was the other way around. Also, the whole mechanic behind half-lifes is really only applicable to large numbers anyways (due to half-lifes really representing probabilities of decay) plus this is a card game and not the real world so really I can do whatever I want. If you want to pretend that this card rounds down I don't mind though.

Thunderbringer has a bug. You cast it during an opponent's turn and search for a sorcery, which you can't play at that time.

Hey if you want to grab an uncastable card it's not my problem.

There's too much clutter between the cards it's very difficult to read quickly. Maybe use double space between cards and paragraphs or something

But that's when the next round of the Pro Tour comes out! Will you even have the time then?
