I know that Pure plays this and there's enough depth to this game that I thought a thread might be good.

My main goal in playing this free-to-play game is to get all the achievements but I know that'll take 80 hours or so, and I really like playing the game in the meantime so I want to get more efficient since i'm starting to get overwhelmed with options on how to play this. Obviously there are some troop combinations which are ideal and I'm having trouble finding them.

Maybe the easiest way to talk about the game is to talk about what I should be doing with the various resources the game gives you.

GOLD - i'm thinking I should probably crack Gold chests until I find a Valkyrie which I hear is essential to farming. Then I should get all kingdoms to level 3, 4 or 5 and then focus on the four (or so) kingdoms that boost the Magic skill to kingdom level 10. I think this is the most efficient way to spend gold.

GEMS - obviously save for the 500 gem armour, this seems obvious

GLORY - obviously save for the reward packs which cost 250-450 glory. What they seem to give is AMAZING value.

SOULS - I've been upgrading the troops I use but maybe I should be upgrading my hero first (Warlord - Broken Spire)?

TIME - this is the hardest thing. What do i focus on?! Should I do all the quest lines first? Shouldn't I try to get to rank 1 PvP all the time since it gives incredible daily rewards? Should I finish off challenges in each kingdom before moving to the next? I LOVE playing Arena and just want to do that all the time but is it worth it? I feel totally lost as to what to do, right now I've only finished the quests in BROKEN SPIRE and am working on the challenges. i haven't even bought any other kingdoms yet.

The worst thing is that I always feel i'm wasting my resources on my current troops since i'll eventually have some that i'll use instead. But upgrading troops seems important to get the Kingdom rankings up (i really want them at 1 gold star), so I'm guessing getting troops to level 5 is good since it's good value for what you spend in gems.

The daily and weekly tasks really throw me off. Like right now I need to get a kingdom to level 6. My Broken Spire is at level 4 so I'm thinking of saving gold to get it to 6 but this goes totally against my gold plan I mentionned above.

Any advice on troop teams? Right now I'm sporting Luther, Goblin and Hobgoblin. I think the free turns are good but I dunno.

So like, what is the game? There isn't any real description.

Paint me a word picture.

I'm sorry i mudded up your other thread :( zzmorg telling me to stop doesn't do anything, but when you say boo, i listen :)

Gems of War is by the makers of Puzzle Quest. Ever play that? It's like crack-cocaine for white people. It's basically Bejeweled infused with RPG elements that you can level up troops to make your gem matches produce something called MANA (new concept for you maybe) which you use to cast SPELLS and such. Because it's free-to-play there's all sorts of in-game currencies to spend on various items that get you different rarity troops (from common to mythic, like Hearthstones). There's also this huge map with various kingdoms to conquer which scratches the itch of my wargaming conquest side. There's a robust PvE function in the quests and challenges. And there's a VERY rewarding PvP function where you can play against other people's AI-controlled "decks" which consist of 4 different troops that combine using various colour mana.

But the gameplay itself is gem-matching (like Bejeweled) so you have to be able to at the very least tolerate that. The real fun, for us, is in the deck construction and acquiring the rare stuff. I am AWFUL at deck construction (as you know) so that's why I'm posting here cuz some people enjoy that aspect more than me.

There are also two mini-games which are both great
TREASURE MAPS - you can aquire these hard to find items and they let you hunt for treasure which gives you a set number of turns to match items to increase their payout. At the end, you get whatever is left on the screen.

ARENA - much like hearthstone, you draft a common, rare and ultra-rare. All three will be max-level and you pick a weapon for your hero to go along with it. If you get 8 wins out of 8, you get a big payout. my first time i got 8 wins and it was awesome.

i love you

Barney, arena and secondly pvp are where I'm getting the most resources. I have adana at level 10, cause it's my home kingdom. You want to max a kingdom you can call home with your gold, but get the right team first. Also, a quick search will show which kingdom to buy just for the mana banner. Doing all the quests in a kingdom will give you some epic troops you'll feel better about upgrading, but beware, some of them are hardcore. The team I'm using is 3/4 from doing quests.
I'm using Dracos 1337 because it starts with 31 armor. Also, he silences and drains mana in his spell, which lets me beat average overall teams with some crazy (scary) mythic thrown in. I have spark grinder, which adds 16 armor and attack to a mech. So one spell from the spark guy makes Dracos 31 atrack and 46 armor. I have the engineer to create another mech if the dragon gets nuked somehow. Finally, I got settite warrior this week. He breaks the game for me. One boost from spark guy and settite deals 46 damage to the other team!

Lastly, join a guild asap. I get +8 on all colors from just a mediocre guild.

That's all I've got for the moment. Yes, it's like crack mixing magic with a smartphone puzzler.
