What's Eligible?
Nearly any card posted since the current CotW thread went live is eligible. It doesn't even have to be the first time the card was posted. Un cards are valid.

What's Not Eligible?
  • Your own cards. You can only nominate cards by other people
  • Cards from an old thread you reposted yourself.
  • Nominations that result from collusion. If a nomination is made in exchange for some sort of favour, or under some sort of threat, then it is void.
  • Cards that have already won CotW are not eligible for future CotWs.
  • Nominations that I consider to be jokes or trolling.

A Note On Contests:
Many contest holders feel that having an entrant nominated for CotW will skew the results of their contest. To prevent this while still allowing those cards their chance at nomination, any card submitted to a contest is eligible for nomination to CotW as though the date the contest (or pertinent round of the contest) ended was the date the card was posted.

Am I the only one who thinks Garden Of Promises is overpowered? There's half a deck's worth of Raise The Alarm variants that nab you two cards with this out. Around 4 mana, you can do better than that even (though, 4 mana is also exactly 2 Servo Exhibitions, so you might just run with the two drops).
Swarm Mother also combos with 1/1s but there's a hard limit to its impact. I like the new spin on affinity.
Paradise Seeker leads to neat gameplay decisions but also bookeeping. I'm split on this one.

I suppose. Extending the effect beyond the turn you pay for it makes it way more powerful, but at twice the cmc, maybe this is balanced.

I'm skeptical about modal cards you don't have agency over. I feel like it should be worded as "Target instant or sorcery spell's controller may have you counter it. If they don't, copy it. You may choose new targets for the copy."

There's precedent for abilities with targets chosen by other players. I don't see any reason why modes should work any differently.

I feel like you should have used an example from something earlier than Portals, such as Volcanic Offering.
I'm mostly wary about how MODO in particular handles it, since modes and targets are chosen before you spend the mana.

Are you sarcastic? Or do you think I am inanely stupid, not only to think that Volcanic Offering somehow predates Portal, but also the implication that Portals is not sufficiently old enough to make comments about modern design?

I'm not sure if my mind somehow used earlier to mean "closer to our point in time", or if I actually had two different sentences in mind when I wrote that and mixed it up, but the intent was to suggest CKY to use a more modern card as example.
