Last Week's Winner

Probably going to be Devagath, but the results aren't in. Yep, Devegath, desinged by the year's most popular designer, Echo_Robin, took CotW for the second week of 2017.

At the beginning of your upkeep, choose one ─

Caress the Sun
Enchantment - Aura {U}
Enchant creature.
Whenever enchanted creature attacks, Caress the Sun deals 4 damage to it.

I held on tight, for it was my duty to you.
And then I fell because I couldn't anymore."

Jane Wandering
Planeswalker — Jane
When Jane Wandering enters the battlefield or whenever you planeswalk, you may create a 1/1 black legendary Cat creature token named Woof.
— Planeswalk. If you planeswalk to a phenomenon or to an unstable plane this way, shuffle Jane Wandering into your library, then draw a card.
— Exile Jane Wandering. If you do, search your library for a Jane planeswalker card and put it on to the battlefield. Then shuffle your library.

Aethertown Trolley

The Rules

How To Nominate:
Quote the post with the card you want to nominate. Delete everything in that post other than the card. Copy and paste your quote into a post on this thread.
If you did it right the quote tag should link to the original post.

What's Eligible?
Nearly any card posted since the current CotW thread went live is eligible. It doesn't even have to be the first time the card was posted. Un cards are valid.

What's Not Eligible?
  • Your own cards. You can only nominate cards by other people
  • Cards from an old thread you reposted yourself.
  • Nominations that result from collusion. If a nomination is made in exchange for some sort of favour, or under some sort of threat, then it is void.
  • Cards that have already won CotW are not eligible for future CotWs.
  • Nominations that I consider to be jokes or trolling.

A Note On Contests:
Many contest holders feel that having an entrant nominated for CotW will skew the results of their contest. To prevent this while still allowing those cards their chance at nomination, any card submitted to a contest is eligible for nomination to CotW as though the date the contest (or pertinent round of the contest) ended was the date the card was posted.

A lot of designs this round, but none are particularly stellar. Voted for flavor: Farewell to Reason and Jane Wandering.

Weirdly enough, I think most of those cards are amazing. Voted for everything except Eves and Caress.

Unwriting Stylus is winning right now. Smh. It's practically an un-card.

It has "un" right in the name.

But so fun...
Most "naming" cards are niche overspecialized answers. Your fault for playing them.
I may be forgetting a thing or ten...

It also makes it so players can only have one legendary and one Planeswalker at a time. Also makes the echoing instants from mirrodin block more powerful.

Wait, when did Caress the Sun get nominated?

Does this mean . . . I'm actually getting better as a fantasy cardsmith?

My mind . . . has officially exploded.

Old Battle Axe is somehow more YMtC than Unwriting Stylus, an extremely YMtC card.

It actually does the opposite of both of those things. Two cards can't have the same name if they don't have names. Leyline of Singularity, for example, doesn't prevent you from controlling multiple face-down cards. (Also, Unwriting Stylus doesn't interact with the planeswalker uniqueness rule at all, since that cares about subtypes, not names.)

So in practice, Unwriting Stylus is basically a much cheaper Mirror Gallery, with some weird side effects.

Could you fix the text of Eyes in the Dark, please?

Some of the flavor text was copied into it from the previous card, and I think it might be breaking my ability to view this thread on mobile somehow.

And besides, planeswalker uniqueness rule is based on subtype, not name, so that wouldn't even work.

But yeah, planeswalkers count subtypes for uniqueness not the name.

I also see this as a Mirror Gallery variant. It isn't "all names are _", it is "there are no names at all"

Soooooooo...
Wychmirror Shard
Artifact
All names are "Wychmirror Shard"
As Shard reflects all, all reflects the Shard.
