What if we open this up so that it can also be words (minimum of 5 letters long) that appear in flavour text, rules text, or reminder text? That would open up the possibilities more.

Eh, no E. Or B, for that matter

_ A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Hangman: 3/3
Mana spent: 3
Correct letters: A
Incorrect letters: B, E

Wouldn't that just mean any old word? I'm fine with opening up a bit, but this seems too open. Maybe to Magic-related words, like names of persons from the story that appear in card text but are not necessarily card names, or ability words, or something? Basically, any Magic-related word that is not a word in common, everyday use (except for card names, which can be made up of common words).

Well, it wouldn't be quite any word, since there are lots of words that don't appear anywhere on any Magic card, but it would open it up such that it'd be more difficult to guess the word. Right now, as soon as 2 letters are next to each other, it's often possible to guess the word using Gatherer. Opening up these words sufficiently may be the only way to keep this interesting.

Can I have a "T"?

Sure, I'll give you a T.
_ A _ _ _ _ I _ _ T

Hangman: 3/3
Mana spent: 5
Correct letters: A, I, T
Incorrect letters: B, E

I'm more thinking about a way for the Hangman to win the game. In Unstable, it can attack. How about if, after a miss, it would grow and then deal damage equal to its power to the player who missed? With players starting at 20 life?

Hmmm... how about an "R"?

I don't think we need a way for the Hangman to win. Once it's 4/4 or bigger it feels pretty scary anyways (if it keeps hitting a player after growing, it would win after 6 wrong guesses; 2+3+4+5+6=20). Plus, if the Hangman won, who would be next in line? Nah, I'd say just to go with any text on the card to make it more difficult to guess.

If the hangman won, the person who suggested the last ("winning") word would just get to pick another word.

BTW, S

Yes. I would find the way more appealing if in choosing the word there was a way for me to win, even if it was very unlikely. By win, I mean that the opponents did not manage to guess my word in time. The point not being that I get to choose the next word, but that my current word was not guessed.

As for the letters, no R, no S.

_ A _ _ _ _ I _ _ T

Hangman: 5/5
Mana spent: 7
Correct letters: A, I, T
Incorrect letters: B, E, R, S

Feeling good :)

Ah yes, we're converging now. A G for you.
_ A _ _ _ _ I G _ T

Hangman: 5/5
Mana spent: 8
Correct letters: A, G, I, T
Incorrect letters: B, E, R, S

And I finally remembered: we should just draw the picture that is drawn in the real game, adding a line for each wrong answer. I'm at my job now, but I'll do it tomorrow, if you don't guess the word before then.

Okay, I've changed the rules and first post so that it can be ANY word that appears on a Magic card, obviously meaning that you're encouraged to start guessing Magic lingo!

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Hangman:
Mana spent:
Correct letters:
Incorrect letters:

Not sure how I would draw the picture... any help with that UA?

FYI, I'm driving shortly out of town, so I won't be able to post any more responses until I get in.
